Oscar Boycott Story 'Not True,' Says Tom Cruise's Spokesperson

EXCLUSIVE UPDATE: Tom Cruise's people are slapping down a Daily Mail report alleging the 'War of the Worlds' actor and wife Katie Holmes are skipping the Oscars because the event is being co-hosted by Anne Hathaway. Why would someone boycott an event because of Anne Hathaway? A source told the Mail that Holmes was not amused by her peer's recent impression of her on 'Saturday Night Live.'

But as quickly as the story has spread, a spokesperson for Cruise tells PopEater that it is "not true and made up" and that the famous pair had no plans of attending the Oscars before Hathaway's somewhat unflattering skit.

The Daily Mail quoted a now-debunked source saying, "Tom and Katie don't want to have to cross paths with Anne" after the skit. The source said that the couple used to be friends with Hathaway and supported her when she split from her then-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, in 2008.

Hathaway, 28, along with James Franco, 32, will host the 83rd Academy Awards show Feb. 27. They will be the youngest tandem of Academy Award hosts ever.

Oh for pete's sake! I happen to like all 3 actors' movies, but talk about tempermental (which I guess goes along with the business). On one hand, friends don't expect friends to make fun of them, but on the other, I didn't think it was a malicious act. Oh well. I guess the Cruises are touchy. So be it.

Don't you know that if you DON'T SHOW UP...SHE WINS...if you do show up, your telling her..YOUR CRAP DOESN'T BOTHER US.. we will go on doing what we do...living our lives..etc etc...your not teaching your daughter to stand up to people who are ignorant and don't let them bother you..GOSH..I dont need to make millions of dollars to do the right thing.

I'm sure Anne Hathaway is going to be so crushed she refuses to host. These two are unreal. Maybe Katie should be more upset that her Kennedy mini series wasn't picked up.

I would hope that they were not asked as there are plenty more prominant actors/actresses in Hollywood. Yes Tom Cruise USED
to be a box office draw but that is in the past. As for Katie...
she had lots of potential before she married Tom but not so much
anymore. I think Hollywood (as well as everyone else)has had enough of their drama!

I bet if you could show them crying on their emails they would be tears all over them. All a bunch of sick stuck up people engorged with their own fame thats in their own minds. The rest of us could care less. pop Biter needs to give it a rest

More than likely it's Tom Cruise who has made that decision. He appears to be a very controlling person and i'm sure she's not allowed to sneeze without permission. Sorry but I have never cared for Tom. He really seems to think much too much of himself. I don't think the Oscars will suffer much with him not in attendance.
