It was only a week ago when America fell in love overnight with a homeless man with a "golden voice" on the streets of Columbus, Ohio. It was less than a week ago when we all watched Ted Williams life miraculously turn around after reuniting with his mother and finding work -- high profile work with Kraft and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Unfortunately for Williams, 53, old habits always die hard. According to a confirmed report by Gossip Cop, Dr. Phil convinced Williams to go to rehab after he got into a fiery exchange with his daughter Janey on Monday.
Gossip Cop spoke with a representative for Dr. Phil, whom Williams taped two segments with over the weekend. On the program, Williams admits to still drinking; his daughter accused him of sticking to the bottle on Monday.
While shooting the two segments, Williams and his family were reportedly kept separate in two hotels. The first episode was an introduction to Dr. Phil and the second episode, which aired on Wednesday, featured the family reunion.
In an interview with 'Entertainment Tonight,' Williams described a family gathering that devolved into a shouting match between him and daughter Janey.
"I wanted to bring it to a close by just saying 'shut the hell up and let me talk to your mother,'" Williams said. "When that was said out of my mouth, my daughter exploded ... fists started flying, none of which were mine, none of which were mine, but it could have escalated to the point where it could have gotten really ugly. So in the process of doing that, I got scratched on my face."
But Janey had a different story to tell, claiming the argument began because her estranged father, a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, had been drinking heavily since being plucked from obscurity.
"He has consumed at least a bottle of Grey Goose a night. That's not including the Coronas he ordered, that's not including the Budweisers he ordered, the other alcohol, the wines. He drinks heavily," she said.
Ted Williams denied he's been drinking, but admitted to CBS News on Friday that his sudden rise to fame has been a challenge. "I wanted a nerve pill yesterday, to be honest with you."
Life coach and radio host Mel Robbins tells PopEater that Williams' feel-good story was doomed from the moment it became clear the media was going to latch onto him and not let go.
"The media created a reality show right in front of our eyes," she says. "Ted Williams may have a golden voice, but he's also got a rap sheet, a drug addiction, nine children he abandoned and a mother he has been estranged from for 20 years. Does everyone deserve a second chance, sure. But don't kid yourself -- you can't overcome a lifetime of bad decisions and mental health issues with a few morning show appearances."
"If Ted is ever going to get better, he's got to be honest with himself and admit he's addicted to drugs and alcohol," Dr. Phil said. "I've told him it's not going to be easy and it's going to take a lot of hard work. It might be a long journey for him, but this is a big step in the right direction."
Yeah the guy's on the street for a reason He's made his life and abandon responsibility Too bad He needs to be slowly introduced into society Street life takes time to recover from He needs lots of therapy to deal with the transsition. He needs his kids to slow down and give him room to recover from the streets and the survival it requires He's clearly damaged But I believe he has a good soul
Have you seen anything that's other than the norm in this case. The man was homeless on the streets. Did his family want him in there life or try to help him with his problems? NO. Why was he homeless if he had 9 kids that wanted to be a part of his life now that it looks like he will be famous. I don't want your money she said, I just want you. When you kick me when I am down, then there's not reason to want too ride with me when I'm up. Why did he get the job, his voice. Why does everyone all of a sudden want to help him or be with him now. News coverage, because it's the hot story of the week and greed, wanting to get what they can out of him before he fall. Sad but true in the real world. Dr Phil is helping him because he saw him on the side of the road before he became famous? I don't think so. His ratings will be high on this story until everybody fires him. Then he will again disappear back onto the streets. Then the media will have another story to tell. And everyone will watch. And he will suffer again. He was using his voice to get money to live on the streets and buy his next drink. Now it is being given to him by the ones who think they can make a buck. What did you think would happen.
What planet are you on???? Before Ted was "discovered" he was a street bum, drug addict , thief and deadbeat dad. I guess "working things out for himself" hasn't gone too well !!!!!
you make no sense . doyou really think his family didnt try ? dumbo his poor blind ex wife even took in his kids from the woman he cheated on who he also abandoned. its idiots like you who seek to blame others for this mans condition . the blame lies soley on one person himself . you need to educate your self on addiction..
Gee, knock me over with a feather!!!Anyone who could not see this repbrobate was not still tweeking has thier head in the sand. He is on more than booze. He also has 9 kids scattered around and a long police record. All he has done is break his mothers heart again!
My, aren't we all so superior. Anybody who's experienced rehab learns the addict is a liar. Not his fault, just the nature of the mental illness. And for all those trashing Dr. Phil, I didn't see anybody else lining up to help this man. Just a clump of leeches trying to suck the last few pathetic cents from Mr. Williams' corpse.
Exactly. Because of Dr Phil's concern, Ted is entering Rehab & hopefully he will be on the road to good health. The family intervention was the only way to handle this. Good job Dr Phil. and also for paying out of your own pocket Ted's rehab bill.

You can choose your friends and enemies but you can't choose your relatives.

This was more like an intervention.
Wild guess....Ted's mommy had 12 kids of her own, to add to Ted's 9??? It may be cultural.
