Don't expect to cross paths with Michael Stipe on your next camping trip. R.E.M.'s frontman revealed that he developed a fear of the outdoors after a near-death experience during an adolescent trip with the Boy Scouts."I nearly died at 14," Stipe told the New York Post of the traumatic incident. "I was a Boy Scout lost on top of a mountain. It was very cold, wet and horrific. My father thought I was dead. First stage of hypothermia is uncontrollable shivers," he added. "Then, hallucinations. Then you fall asleep -- then you're gone. I had the first two stages."
Stipe says the frightening ordeal resulted in a form of agoraphobia that he has been living with ever since. "When I got home I went inside and almost never came out," he told gossip columnist Cindy Adams. "I've since developed a fear of the outdoors."

This limp wristed, self absorbed sissy needs to quit whining and get humped by a homosexual grizzly bear.

Applying for the gig are you?
Well, snarko mcgee, perhaps you might volunteer your limp wristed service since you are so knowledgeable about such things. How kind of you to offer.
once a whimp, always a whimp!

Slic, it's "wimp" not "whimp". Once a moron; always a moron. Learn how to spell before you start insulting others.

Excuse me idiot! Just shut your big fat yap and don't worry about people's spelling. If that's all you got to do, then go crawl under a rock and we won't have to listen to you.Glad you survived Michael.
OMG the grammer police are here!!!

No slic, not the grammar police. The spelling police. There is a difference. Learn it.

I was going to say the same.
I love Michael and his music, and thank goodness he survived that camping trip!!!

You were right not to call him a P()ssy Slic....because he's afraid of those also!

I love REM, but I think Stipe needs a box of Just for Girly Men {rata tat}. REM's 1989 album was called Green. Their 2011 album will be called Grey {rat a tat} The article forgot to mention a benefit on March 11 at the Schick House, so Stipe can afford to buy some razors {bada bump}......I kid I kid (but that homeless shelter grey does have to go).

Too bad he didn't tell you the part where he was saved by a scoutmaster who arrived just in time ,bent him over and administered first aid ,giving him life -saving warmth!

Hey! I thought we agreed to never speak of that again! Well, at least you made it sound like you were just joking about Michael Stipe, and not about what really happened to you. Take care, Little Scout.
WOW....from the headline I thought this might have been interesting, like a wild animal attack or hunters shooting at him last weekend. Being cold and wet on some mountain is hardly a "near death camping disaster", but thanks for revealing this earth shattering news more than 30 FRIGGIN YEARS LATER! My guess is someone needs a hug.

We all have some kind of fear.the normal thing to do is get up every morning and go out and deal with them.
