Doctors Will Amputate Zsa Zsa Gabor's Leg Today
Zsa Zsa Gabor, ailing
since summer 2010, will have three-quarters of her right leg amputated by a Los Angeles doctor today,
RadarOnline.com reports.
Publicist John Blanchette tells Radar the surgery was scheduled to take place at 11AM PST at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. An infected bone in 93-year-old Zsa Zsa's leg necessitated the procedure.
Blanchette says a press conference will be held shortly after the operation, which is expected to last an hour. Prince Frederic von Anhalt, Gabor's husband since 1986, is at the hospital.
Gabor, a Hungarian-American socialite and actress, has been known for decades for her thick accent, prolific trips down the aisle and for pioneering the act of being "famous merely for being famous," as she's often described. Her best-known role was in 1952's 'Moulin Rouge.'
Gabor was hospitalized back in November after she complained of
pain and swelling in her legs. That was when the ailing actress's private physician found a "massive blood clot." Gabor was reportedly so ill during the month of August that she requested last rites.
After suffering a bone-breaking
fall on July 18, Gabor was hospitalized and eventually had a hip replacement. Throughout her hospital stay, there was a series of conflicting reports intimating that she was near death (fueled by her husband) as well as "going strong" (daughter Constance Francesca Hilton).

Very sad that she has to go thru an amputation at her age. She is 93 and shouldn't have to suffer thru that. I hope she does well.

I think a lot of Dr's under estimate the elderly. My 89 yr old grandmother got breast cancer and they told her she wouldn't make it through the operation. She went to another Dr. willing to do the surgery. She asked him to go ahead and remove both breast, just in case she got breast cancer in the other breast.
The Dr. preformed the surgery and she did great. She lived to be 99 yrs old. I think the elderly are willing to take that risk, because, if they don't, their going to die a slow and painful death. It's the Dr.'s that have the problem.
BTW I worked in a nursing home, for 22 yrs and I've seen this first hand when the Dr's told the family their loved one's wouldn't make it through surgery and the pain that patient had to go through, even with pain medication. God Bless Zsa Zsa Gabor!

Sammy!!!! YOU SILLY DINGDONG! SERIOUSLY....SOMEONE PRIVY TO AMPUTATED BODY PARTS HAS ALREADY BEEN WARNED THAT SOMEBODY WILL WANT THE LEG. JUST WONDERING...FOR SHOW OR CONSUMPTION? I SUGGEST A VERY PUNGENT MARINADE OR DEEP RUB. OTHERWISE IT'S GONNA LOOK WIERD MOUNTED DUDE.

Watch for it on ebay! I asked the surgeon if I could see my husband's hip bone (he was having hip-replacement). After the surprise wore off, he said it was against the law apparently to take it out of the O.R. I've watched autopsies, I just wanted to see how bad his hip was.

This is very sad, and although Zsa Zsa has never been a favorite of mine, to see this happen to her is a shame. My concern is that I am afraid that she will not survive the surgery because of her age and physical condition. Why her family waited so long even though Zsa Zsa was against the amputation, her life should have been more important to her loving? husband and her daughter and they should have overrode her decision regarding the surgery.
I hope she survives and I wish her well.

No one can override Zsa Zsa's decision as long as she is able to say no to the amputation. She probably changed her mind and decided to have it done when she saw it was traveling up further on her leg. Her husband loves her as well as her daughter. This is what is called "Life" it happens.
I loved her in "Moulin Rouge" and she was such a fantastic personality. God Bless her and all good things!
