Steve Carell to Leave 'The Office' Early
Steve Carell, a nominee at tonight's Golden Globe Awards (Best Performance by an Actor in a TV Series - Comedy or Musical), has had a long career at 'The Office.' He even won the Globe in 2006 for his work on the series.
Still, last year's announcement that he'd be leaving the cast at the end of this season was a jolt. Would paper sales in Scranton -- and Thursday nights on NBC, for that matter -- ever be the same without
Michael Scott?
You'd expect the entire season to culminate with the milestone moment of Michael's good-bye. But leave it to 'The Office' to embrace awkward timing!
NBC now says the farewell is actually going to happen well before the season 7 finale in May.
Why the early exit? According to the
Huffington Post, the show's executive producer, Greg Daniels, confirmed that Carell's character will be written off the show before this season's last episode; the remaining weeks will reportedly see Dunder-Mifflin "scrambling to replace him."
The last four episodes of this season will be Carell-free, as NBC explained on Friday. So the party-planning committee better pick up the pace, since Carell's last scenes will likely air in April.
Steve Carell, 48, who has said that he's moving on from network TV to concentrate on his busy slate of movie roles, will be both a nominee and a presenter at this year's Golden Globes (airing live on NBC -- Sun., Jan. 16, 8 p.m. ET).

joan rivers should replace him.
They may as well cancel the show. Without Carrell there is no show.

Great, now we're going to see him in movie after movie. If he can play more than the goofy character type (Will Ferrell), he might stick around. The Office will be a goner without him (Seinfeld).

At least we won't have to wait until September to see if The Office suck without Carrell.

The show was never funny. Carrell and wilson are idiots.

My thoughts exactly. The Office is the lamest show in a season of lame shows and most of it is due to Carell.
ahhh....opinions...
OMG they should just Cancel the show! It will Never be the same or as great without Steve Carell as Michael Scott! Never, never, never!! I say..so long...
oops!! That's what She said!! :( so sad to see it go...

No worries. Im sure Will Ferrell will make an even funnier boss!
His movie career will tank..he will regret his leaving but he is greedy and has not had his pride hurt as yet! But a year from now when they say....Yeah Carell used to be on 'The Office" What ever happened to him?
Another actor that does not understand this is as good as it gets for him!

Much as I value Carell's version of humor, all I can say 'bout his premature 'leave' from "Office" is...... soooo what. Office has been stale, for some time now. I chalk it up to both the sad state of affairs in the 'writing' dept nowadays in Hollywood(what 'writing?), along with the outright awful trend of TV reality shows.... gone steriodal. I left office as a viewer, some time ago.

He is so lackluster.........he THINKS he's a big star!!!! LOL.
Check back in 2 years....wonder where "what's his name" is???

Well, seeing that he's been well-known for over a decade(long before the office aired), I'd say you need re-evaluate your time period.
he insist's upon himself :p
You've got it exactly right. Steve Carell is a talentless loser. It will be like David Caruso's fatal career move leaving NYPD Blue.
Easily this show can be resurected. There are many fine characters still left for it to fail too soon. Lets get a FB campaign going. I say Jon Lovitz would make a wonderful oddity to replace Michael. C'mon you know Im right, Jon Lovitz!! I'm laughing already.

Hmm....
So Carell is going to go and do movies.
Can we all say, " Chevy Chase "????
Like Chase, Carell has limited appeal, and just is not that funny.
