After trashing Angelina Jolie, Charlie Sheen, Hugh Hefner, Mel Gibson, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and God, Ricky Gervais wasn't exactly Mr. Popularity following his Golden Globes hosting gig.But despite reports of Gervais taking things too far and being permanently banned from the Golden Globes, the funny man says he didn't offend anyone.
"Everyone took it well and the atmosphere backstage and at the after show was great," Gervais said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He also explained his mid-show disappearance, saying, "I did every single introduction I was meant to. There just happened to be a long gap. This is because I was allowed to choose who I would introduce in advance. I obviously chose presenters who I had the best jokes for. (And who I knew had a good sense of humor.)"

The Golden Globes is a fake awards show. Its voting members are a 100, or so, "journalists" who work for foreign gossip magazines. Their only expertise is to vote how they're directed. Basically, the event is a drunken/stoned party for the attendees. It needs someone like Gervais to make it tolerable. The Oscars is the real deal.

He was funny, but you knew many of the famous people wouldn't take it well, and Ricky Gervais knew it, too. I appreciate his putting our entertainment first instead of playing it safe to earn a steady gig.

Ricky is a loser and he knows it so he took his one shot and failed miserably. Thank God for making me an Atheist? What does that have to do with the award show? What a loser. Another D lister's career down the drain. Good bye Ricky, don't let the door hit you in the A**.

A great job by Gervais...if these pompous "stars" can't take a joke, that's their problem. And he deserves great props for having the guts to end the show with "Thanks to God for making me an Atheist." With all the celebrities and sports figures out there constantly thanking "God" for helping them win an award or an athletic contest, it's nice to hear an actual voice of reason.
Ricky who?
Well I admit for a short man this guy made the show brilliant. Why they wouldn't invite him back is as unknown as Ricky Gervais himself! He can sting with his digs but he's right about the Tourist movie, it was all about the actors looking good. Though the ending was surprising it certainly wasn't a well produced movie, but that's the Producers fault. At any rate...CYA next year Ricky!

We want to watch a show, not to be dragged down. C'mon, we can do much better.

Would someone please make Tilda Swinson put on some make-up or just ban her from photos? Yech!

His jokes were gaudy...it's a cool thing to host a show keeping a light atmosphere (like Jim Carrey does)and it totally sucks thrashing celebs that, unlike yourself, have a background built on talent and respect for what they do. He was so out of line with his not even mediocre presentation. I'm glad that Robert Downey Jr. and Tim Allen got back on him. And btw, the people in the room were laughing not because they liked the so called jokes, but because there were cameras all over the place, so they couldn't just get up and leave or make grimaces. He sucks big time and shouldn't be invited to any of these events anymore...

Entertaining. Fresh. Bravo. I think he's on NBC Thursday Night line-up...how long before Hollywood pressure the network to axe Ricky Gervais?
