In Defense of Ricky Gervais by ... Bryan Adams?

While critics continue to pile on to slam
Ricky Gervais for his
"corrosive tone" at the Golden Globes on Sunday night, the British comic isn't without his supporters. Count 'Summer of '69' rocker Bryan Adams in that bunch of fans who thought Ricky did a bang-up job.
"I loved Ricky hosting the Golden Globes. He doesn't give a s**t," Bryan tells me. "Look, I'm going to say this because that's me every day."
Bryan, a three-time Oscar nominee whose songwriting career has spanned more than three decades and 65 million albums sold, tells me that much like Ricky, he doesn't rehearse or even warm up before performing to a sold out crowd. He admires the actor's loose style and delivery, particularly how he introduced Tom Hanks with a long list of awards and movies, then just said Tim Allen's name.
On tour promoting his phenomenal new CD, 'Bare Bones,' the proud Canadian tells me why he decided to strip down his biggest hits including 'Everything I Do, I Do It For You.'
"Everything was written on guitar so it's a side of me that I know well," Bryan tells me. "It's always been on the back of my mind to present these songs in a simple fashion away from my band. I started playing small venues to keep me amused, as a laugh, and then joined Twitter where I got great feedback about performing bare bones."
Being a super nice guy, Bryan was reluctant to comment if Britney Spears or some of the younger performers could be able to perform without all the stage production, but he did say, "It takes a lot of guts to do that by yourself. It took me a long time to get comfortable on a stage by myself. In the past if I cocked up [blundered] I would blame the band, now it's just me."
Bryan tells me it would be super hard for him to judge a show like 'American Idol' and slag anyone off. "That's hard for me to do," he tells me.
Don't worry, Bryan. That's what we have Ricky Gervais for.

He is an idiot!
Sir Richard Gervais, you did yourself proud!
I'm with Bryan Adams on this one. They knew Gervais' style when they hired him. If the Hollywood elite and the Golden Globes people can't take they heat, they should get out of the kitchen. They are all after publicity - and when it's all about fame, you can't always choose to have JUST GOOD THINGS said about you. You have to take what you get and try to do so gracefully. These 'Hollywood Elite' people ALL need to toughen up.
I totally support Gervais and...will pay anytime to see him perform.

hahaha the elite cant take it????
joy bahardt..rosie o'donnel.. kathy griffin all are much worse >>>>do you dislike them too???
Actually, yes, they are also trash, and we all know, trash loves trash.
Had the Golden Globes never seen anything Gervais has been in or written? I'm not sure what else would they have expected.

Was he supposed to walk on eggshells around all these "stars". He was just telling the truth. Really dont think he gives a rats a--.

I also thought Rickey Gervais did a great job...if you seek fame and fortune, you set yourself up for such situations

Stars could not handle the truth...Maybe take this as a lesson, and stop acting a fool.

If Gervais had been talking about Palin or Bush, etc. Hollywood would have been fine with it! Bravo... Love You, Ricky Gervais.

I loved Gervais' presentation. It is edgy and hysterically funny, and true. Kudos!!

I had no problem with what Ricky said. He was simply being a mirror for what most people feel and think about the individuals he roasted and perhaps said individuals need to be less caught up with themselves.

I thought Ricky Gervais was very funny....although I had to listen to him carefully because of his accent..but thought he was spontaneous and again, very funny...his delivery was perfect...as a matter of fact, I tuned it to his HBO show but it was already going off...will watch it for sure...thanks

The hollywood elite got a little taste of their own medicine and they didnt like it. They would have thought he was great had he been poking at conservatives.

I thought that Ricky Gervais was brilliant!! He said things that everyone has thought of but didn't have the opportunity or the forum to say it in. All of the actors and actresses that attended should be applauding him and laughing at themselves too. Don't they realize that we are amuzed by the things they do and they are making money from all of us living the glorious, lavish lives they do. I think that the dose of reality in humor by Ricky Gervais was just what everyone needed. Go RICKY

Anyone who has every watched Ricky Gervais perform should have expected exactly what they got. Sometimes his accent is a little heavy for this Ugly American but I enjoy his act and do not think he did anything wrong at the Golden Globes.
