Ricky Gervais is headed to 'The Office' right here in the USA. The comedian is the creator and star of the U.K.'s original version of the hit show, but this cameo role will mark his first appearance at the Scranton branch.

AP reports that next Thursday, Jan. 27, Gervais will reprise his role as David Brent, the character he played in the original British version. It was Brent that served as the basis and inspiration for office manager Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell.

Gervais has been clear that he won't replace Carell when the actor leaves 'The Office' early this season. He's currently in developments for a Chinese version of the show.

Gervais was most recently in the news for his Golden Globes hosting gig, which offended quite a few stars and big Hollywood players. Still, the funny man said "everyone took it well" before admitting he "probably wouldn't be [hosting the Golden Globes] next year."
