George Clooney paid a high price for his good deeds in early January, when he came down with malaria while doing humanitarian work in Sudan.
Clooney, who has since recovered from the illness, according to ETOnline, used his experience to showcase the desperate need for improved medical care around the world.
"This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to a bad 10 days instead of a death sentence."
Clooney was visiting the African nation with humanitarian organization Not On Our Watch, which he founded with his 'Ocean's Eleven' co-stars Don Cheadle, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt, the film's producer, Jerry Weintraub, and actor David Pressman.
The organization, which seeks to end violence in the war-torn country, "focuses on mass atrocities and gross violations of international human rights. We work in areas where global attention is minimal and the response from the international community remains muted."
Malaria prevention is different from treating the illness once you catch it. An ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure. Also, it's possible to catch malaria even when taking quinine as directed. I don't agree that he's showboating; I think he's making a very good point. With medicine, we can keep people from dying of malaria.
I glad he caught malaria. I hope he dies as fast as he hoped Charleton Heston would die when it was announced Heston had alzheimers. Heston was a good man worth something Clooney is a bum and ain't worth spit.
Malaria is no laughing matter, once you have it you never get rid of the parasite. He will never be allowed to donate blood and he can have a reoccurance of it at any time...his life has now changed forever.
Malaria would be about totally gone if the environmentalist idiots hadn't managed to get DDT outlawed.....millions are dying in Africa now to justify the idiocy of the liberal enviros. Google "Michael Crichton, Silent Spring, DDT, Malaria" to find out more about the killing fields of liberal environmentalism, the EPA, and other absurdities.
Or read "The Really Inconvenient Truth" to learn more about this environmental travesty and others.
Hate to bust your hate filled bubble but America was founded by liberals. Conservatives support every position of Adolph Hitler and a few degeneracies, of which even he didn't think. Hitler even defined himself as an "anti-liberal." In short, conservatism is the philosophy of treason to America.
will be praying for ur recovery george. u are so special. too nice for most womenu special lady wll find u cant donate blood after having malaria. but they can use blood for ressearch. bye for now dottie and God bless
first millions die annually from malaria but eradication and nets are more effective than pills at prevention. also, hundreds of thousands of us caught one or two types of malaria during duty in various parts of the world - includes military and other government agencies. Cloony did not have to catch it as he could have used nets, insect repellent and prophylaxis to prevent catching the damn stuff. and yes, he has made some really crummy movies recently - especially the American! lol
No but there are antimalarial drugs which you can use for prevention which if you followed protocol for traveling you would be on. And where bug spray....
George Clooney takes us into many lands and adventures through his craft in movie-making and in real life. George Clooney is truly...A Man for All Reasons

I'm sorry George contracted malaria. I believe he is genuinely motivated to do good wherever he goes.

He will help his fellow man-as long as he gets plenty of publicity for it!

False. Malaria is treatable.
