George Clooney paid a high price for his good deeds in early January, when he came down with malaria while doing humanitarian work in Sudan.
Clooney, who has since recovered from the illness, according to ETOnline, used his experience to showcase the desperate need for improved medical care around the world.
"This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to a bad 10 days instead of a death sentence."
Clooney was visiting the African nation with humanitarian organization Not On Our Watch, which he founded with his 'Ocean's Eleven' co-stars Don Cheadle, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt, the film's producer, Jerry Weintraub, and actor David Pressman.
The organization, which seeks to end violence in the war-torn country, "focuses on mass atrocities and gross violations of international human rights. We work in areas where global attention is minimal and the response from the international community remains muted."
George, George - has your personal physician never heard of malaria pills? There was no reason for you to get the disease - so foolish on everyone's part.
Good for him, He should get sick,, He is so fake and phoney,, Why is he so worried about what happens around the world, there is plenty of things he couls help out with here in America,, Heck Even in his own state of Kentucky ,, he does nothing to help out those people, I just don,t see what all these people admire,, He,s just a self centered jerk...
As much I am concerned about some other countries, I also worry about Americans. Many are having a hard time putting food on the table. I would some of these people with money start businesses and create jobs. Perhaps many wouldn't the attention they get for helping other countries, it might be good for America and the American people.
Profilactic abuse of malaria curing drugs has rendered these drugs less than effective and almost useless as in the case of quinine. It's very hard to find/make a drug that is toxic to these one celled animals that isn't toxic to humans, too.
Q: Did George Clooney seek and follow the directives of travel medicine doctors? Did he take anti-malaria medication as prescribed? Did he use insect repellent? Did he or his staff treat his clothing? What were his sleeping conditions? I have traveled to Africa on occasion and although it seems over-the-top, I take all of the aforementioned precautions. Although nothing is 100% proof, mosquitoes and other sources of malaria don't know it'll be a celebrity infection when they bite; So, celebs need to be just as cautious.
If he is so concerned about the sudan why not spend his millions for medicine for these people. This country is the largest contributor to the World health Organization as many others (to many to name) and nothing ever changes, why would I want to help them when our own americans are starving and 1 in 6 kids go to bed hungary every nite here in this country. These celebs love to see themselves in the news and think if they do good deeds here at home it won't be as news worthy so they pick a country spend a little time and consider themselves big humanatarians!! oh and if they catch an illness that is quite avoidable then that makes it all the more news worthy. Narcissistic bunch!
This guy is as close to perfect as you can get!! Absolutely wonderful to look at- a very funny sense of humor-and going to other countries to make a real difference!!! Love-love-love this guy!!!!
George Clooney may be over this phase of malaria but it cannot be 'cured'; relapses will be a part of his life from now on. True, the medications we have in this country alleviate the symptoms but there is no cure.
the issue is, these people in these countries don't do anything to help themselves. most of these countries are muslim controled and they don't really care about there people. so i don't care what happens to them. actually where all better off if they or the bugs kill themselves off. they want to live in their trailer trash world let them, as a matter of fact, we can send all these wabou muslims in this country back to their homelands and live with their brothers and rot in muslim hell. they don't want to be real friends with us, they want us all dead and i feel the same about them!
What is with all these celebraties helping evry country but their own? It really sickens me.I teach and there is some much we can do without EVER leaving home.
The man is doing his part, which is more then most of us can say for ourselves, And he is right in saying that you don't want to be awarded for something that you should be doing.
@Inacorner: Don't try to divert the subject. I know about your Alinskyite tactics. It's NOT about what I did. What I did NOT do is make a great big self-serving deal of myself over it. Why have only 10% of the donations reached the people? HUH?
