George Clooney Catches Malaria in Sudan

George Clooney paid a high price for his good deeds in early January, when he came down with malaria while doing humanitarian work in Sudan.

Clooney, who has since recovered from the illness, according to ETOnline, used his experience to showcase the desperate need for improved medical care around the world.

"This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to a bad 10 days instead of a death sentence."

Clooney was visiting the African nation with humanitarian organization Not On Our Watch, which he founded with his 'Ocean's Eleven' co-stars Don Cheadle, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt, the film's producer, Jerry Weintraub, and actor David Pressman.

The organization, which seeks to end violence in the war-torn country, "focuses on mass atrocities and gross violations of international human rights. We work in areas where global attention is minimal and the response from the international community remains muted."

The actor, who regularly supports philanthropic causes, including Hurricane Katrina relief and Hope for Haiti Now, was presented with the Humanitarian Award at the 2010 Emmy Awards, but remained modest about his efforts.

"You don't want to be awarded for something you're supposed to be doing," he said.

Well, well, well, - let's all have a big pity party for another rich, self-serving, celebrity, who needs a little more attention.
Clooney, Pitt (and that wife of his)and Damon are all publicity seekers and will stoop to ANY level to get it. Clooney contracted malaria because of his OWN ignorance. Where was he during the ice storms in Kentucky (16 people froze to death)? And why isn't he and all the rest of these rich a--holes, spending the money they made here in America - on Americans? Liberalism is clearly, beyond ANY doubt,or reasonable argument, the philosophy of treason AGAINST America. WAKE UP AMERICANS !!

What everyone needs to understand is that Malaria is contracted thru mosquito bites. And he could have been in Southern Asia, Central America, and South America instead of Africa. And quinine kills the parasites it does not cure the disease. Once someone has malaria, they have it forever. It is not a disease that one would use as a publicity stunt. And as for Clooney not helping people/children in his own country, he does. He is not after publicity, like the Pitts were/are with their adoption of children from another country. There are lots of children here who need a good mom and dad as well. They could have adopted here no problem.

Clooney is doing his bit to help others lees fortunate than himself-it's called contributing to the world in a positive way. I'm a retired social worker who does volunteer tutoring with at risk high school students. The folks who write nasty insults and run down anyone they differ with are not using their time productively....George Clooney is.
