Elisabetta Canalis Learns on CNN She'll Never Be Mrs. Clooney

When George Clooney sat down for an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan, he made it clear to the world that he doesn't want to get married again. Too bad he forgot to mention this to longtime girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis.

"I hate to blow your whole news story, but I was married," George told 'Piers Morgan Tonight' on Friday. "Yeah, so I've proven how good I was at it, and I just ... I'm allowed one," the 48-year-old actor-philanthropist said referring to his marriage to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993.

"Elisabetta had no idea he was going to say that," a friend of the Italian beauty tells me. "She thought she was going to be the girl who would finally get George to settle down and put a ring on it. She was totally surprised."

Even the star's dad, Nick, who was in the same interview, seemed surprised by his son's answer on plans to walk down the aisle again, telling George, "I want you to think about that. I want you to think about ... we've been married ... Nina [George's mom] and I've been married 51 years."

However, friends tell me despite what George might say in public, Elisabetta won't take no for an answer. "If he doesn't ask her to marry him soon she will ask him," an insider tells me. "And if he says no, well there are plenty more fish in the ocean."

Good look finding another fish that looks like George!

We all have different maturity tasks at various stages in our lives. when older men like Clooney date young, never-been-married women, it is sad to see the stress they put these women under who are wanting to bond and marry and have families.

Whether he's smarter for not marrying or not is very subjective; what I admire is that he's made it very clear and no woman should be shocked when she doesn't turn out to be the ONE. I'd rather he be honest than these guys who act like they're interested in a future but really aren't. Go, George!

I don't see how she could claim she didn't know, almost everyone else does and we aren't dating him. Everytime he's asked he says quite plainly he will never get married again. Sounds to me like she went into the relationship hoping to change that. Maybe she can, but I highly doubt it.

I think Clooney is trying to prove a point. He doesn't want to back peddal and does not want to hear alot of " I told you so(s)" from his hollywood friends. Clooney it appears does not want to eat his words.

I agree with others. He's been forthright in the media about his desire to never marry again. If she didn't know this, what does that say about the level of intimacy in their relationship? Most smart men who do not plan to marry tell the ladies up front. She's young, beautiful, and if she wants a family, it would have saved her a lot of grief if she had known up front. On the other hand, my single male friends who choose to stay single that most women disregard such a statement and continue to think they will be the one to change the man's mind about marriage. Obviously George does not want children. He would have had them by now. Denial (on her part or any other woman's part) of the reality, has hurtful consequences.

I don't have a problem with him not wanting to marry. At least he is honest about it. But what is somwhat cruel is the fact that she found out in a CNN interview that he did. It would seem that a kinder way to have told her would have been to have told her in person before saying it in an interview.

I beleive the GF not knowing about George's marriage aversion to marriage like I believe Brad didn't know Angie collects kids! Each of these guys has his thing, George's thing is the "no-marriage clause".

Although seriously, if he wants to stop being harped at maybe he should stop dating the twelve-year-olds. An adult woman that has more on her mind than splashy weddings and babies might be less inclined to try and make a news story out of this. I've got to hand it to him, at least he's not let anyone get "accidently" pregnant trying to trap him into marriage. It's nice to know SOMEONE in Hollywood understands birth control!
