Italian-American Groups 'Outraged' at 'Jersey Shore' Move

The cast of MTV's 'The Jersey Shore' is reportedly ditching Seaside Heights for Italy next season, and Italian-American groups are fuming, according to
FOX News.
MTV has begun scouting locations in
Italy for the hit reality show's fourth season, according to reports, and the move has upset Italian-American groups, who have previously denounced the show for its portrayal of young Italian-Americans.
Joseph Del Raso, president of the National Italian American Foundation, had some choice words about the show.
"We are disappointed that this irresponsible programming will be brought to Italy because it affects the image of all Americans, not only Italian-Americans," Del Raso told FOX News.
"There is a perverse curiosity in wanting to watch the show, and the Italian audience, like the American audience, may be attracted to the show out of curiosity, " he continued. "But we know that the Italians' good taste will immediately recognize this genre of programming for what it's worth."
Del Raso isn't the only one speaking out about the show.
"Whether filmed in Italy or on the moon, the characters of 'Jersey Shore' do not reflect a realistic image of the Italian-American community," said Richard Pellegrino, president of the Italian American Political Coalition.
This isn't the first time the oft-criticized show has made headlines. Italian-American groups
protested the show and the image it portrays when it debuted in 2009.
According to
Hollywood Life, the new season of 'Jersey Shore' will begin filming in May.

Well, at least Hollywood is giving us Southerners a rest. I get so sick hearing that phony southernese dialect, & being portrayed as a racist idiot.

As an American Italian the show is offensive and degrading to me and the real Italian people. We are proud to be Americans and would really like to see Hollywood portray the real Italian heroes that helped shape this country.

It is not just Italians who are miffed at Jersey Shore; the whole of America should be. The lowest possible form of entertainment that beats dog fighting!

It left me wondering why the reality programs exist, is television running out of writers? Are the writers too stupid? Or are the broadcasters just too cheap and stingy?

Give it up. Out of 15 million Italian Americans a show with about 5 of them along with a polish girl (J-wow) isn't truly misrepresenting. Ya gotta choose your battles there's honestly more important issues out there for Italian Americans
