Oprah's Half-Sister Now Must Pass the 'Gayle Test'

It can't be easy finding out that your long lost sister is Oprah Winfrey and then appearing on her show in front of millions. However, that is easy as pie compared to meeting the TV queen's longtime best friend Gayle King. "I can't wait to meet Patricia," she told ABC.

"Gayle must have mixed feelings about the arrival of Patricia," an insider tells me. "Of course she wants nothing but the best for Oprah, but there has to be just a little tiny part of Gayle that is asking, 'What now?'"

Oprah announced she had a half-sister a few days ago, but already her fans, and Gayle, are chattering about what role Patricia will play in the star's life.

"Gayle is very protective about her relationship with Oprah and is not used to sharing her with anyone," a friend of Gayle's tells me, adding that the new addition to the family could be a "bigger adjustment" for Gayle than for Oprah.

But as Gayle has already said, Patricia has proved she's an amazing person.

"This is extraordinary that somebody would have this information about Oprah, who as you know has been sold out on many occasions by friends, by co-workers, in some cases family," Gayle said. "Patricia wasn't trying to get Oprah, she was trying to find her mother ... having Oprah as a sister, a half-sister, was a bonus."

This could be a tough adjustment for you, Gayle, but don't worry love -- there is enough room in the great O's heart for both of you.

I don't think Gayle is that petty. I doubt that Gayle is losing sleep, worrying about losing Oprah's friendship. She doesn't have anything to worry about.

I have two sisters and friends I've had since high school the more people in your life that support you makes life more mellow and happy. It does seem to be a mixed up situation. Whatever happened to Oprah's child she had at 14 how did she die/adop?? Who was this sister's husband did he have a family? Did Oprah's father remarry? since they opened the box I am curious. Seems like Oprah and her sister had a rough life but at least Oprah knew her parents.

I love the story of Oprah and her sister. I am so glad taht Patrica found her mom. I hope they can all have a great relationship. Gale you do not need to worry about her taking your place. She may be busy with her for a while but you have been there for years and I envy your relationship. My best to all 3 of you.

Be honest, she has had Oprah all to herself because Oprah did not have a sister she could trust. Gale must be sweating beads, being honest, I would be. She has not had to share Oprah, and has had her undevided attention. This is a relationship with a SISTER that Oprah wants. In time, I do think that their relationship will change the closer Oprah gets to her sister, it is only natural, and Gale has/should know/expect that. However I do not see Oprah turning Gale off, their relationship will just change, as it should. Gale is going to feel slighted for sometime as Oprah spends more time getting to know her family. Sounds EXCITING to me, and get a life Gale that does not mean hanging off of the bottom of Oprah's shirt. Your a big girl, do something on your own now. Give Oprah the respect and distance she needs right now.

There is always room for a best friend. And, Patricia lives in Milwaukee so won't be around Oprah all of the time. We didn't hear anything about her family situation before this - has she ever married? I don't think she's married now. Who raised her after the age of 7, because they said she was in different foster homes till then. What does she do for a living, etc., etc.
