Bristol Palin won't be speaking to Washington University students about teen pregnancy and abstinence. Student protests caused the university to withdraw their invitation to Bristol, Reuters reports. The University Student Health Advisory Committee proposed the appearance as part of Student Sexual Responsibility Week and approved of spending $20,000 to sponsor the panel which would feature the 'Dancing with the Stars' alum.
But "because of the growing controversy among undergraduates over the decision to pay for the talk with student-generated funds" the committee decided it was best to cancel the abstinence advocate's appearance.
Bristol became pregnant at 17, and at 20, is now a single mom to her 2-year-old son Tripp. She's "thrilled" with her new life in Arizona, and even has a new boyfriend. Although she wasn't an abstinence practitioner during her own teenage years, she's now an outspoken advocate for waiting until marriage to have sex.

I don't think she is the right person to speak of teen pregnancy even though she had a child while still a teen. She has many advantages over other teens who have babies. She may be sincere in her effort but I don't think her speech would have been effective.

no matter what you think of the Palins, what message are they sending to young girls that have made a mistake and gotten pregnant....Kate Walsh said she should not be speaking or getting paid because of a mistake.that is not a good message for our youth .where are they with Charlie Sheen and all his mistakes and getting 2 million an episode..do not hear people protesting him or his show..just saying

I doubt if Bristol is refraining from sex...she probably just learned to take birth control. I don't don't know what makes her a star. I was pregneant at 17 and a mother at 18. The difference is I married the father of my child and have been married for 43 years. I think that makes me more of a star than Bristol.

Get a real job and stop living on your 15 minutes of fame. Times up!
No education, no sense, not many options. Live off mom's millions I would guess.

Why so much hate for Bristol? What did she do? Is it wrong for a 20 yr old woman to try to earn a living by giving advice to others? Michael Vick strangles and beats dogs to death with his bare hands and gets rewarded with a multi million dollar football contract and is seen as a hero by Obama and others but Bristol can't catch a break, why?

Michael Vick served jail time for his mistake. He is now being paid, not rewarded, to play football just as any other pro athlete. Ms. Palin would be just another unwed teen mother statistic except for her mother. Choosing to ride her mother's fame for a living should be enough of a break since most girls don't have access to that.
Becase Bristol is a fraud. The Palins sells snake oil they are worse than Gypies at the least a Gypsie admits to tricks, schemes and fraud to get what they want, the Palins are wolves in sheep clothing spouting garbage to a** holes that would listen while taking their money and run.
Like she isn't having sex with her current BF. I dn't really care if she is or isn't, but there is enough evidence that to preach abstinence only DOESN'T WORK. And Bristol is a prime example of that! Why do we feel thatthe more information we give tens on alcohol and drugs the better, because they can then make better decisions, but mums the word about sex?

Kudos to the Washington University students for speaking up. Besides being an unwed mother, is Bristol Palin even a high school graduate? Why would college administrators even consider having her as a speaker and paying her with student activity fees? These administrators never cease to amaze me.

Why would anyone be interested in what she would have to say anyway. Is it a "Do as I say and not as I do" type of thing? Let her stay in Arizona and raise her child in peace by getting a regular job and paying taxes like everyone else. End this families 15 min. of fame and give some peace to the rest of us.

Sounds like "do as i say and not as i do"

I agree with the students. Bristol Palin is a tabloid celebrity and has NO scholastic credentials that would make her worthy of a PAID FEE for a speech. This about credibilty not politics. If they lower their standards to allow Bristol Palin, who's next? Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian? I'm glad the students stood up and put an end to this farce.

OK everyone knows the Palins are crazy and disfunctional. Most Americans hate them and want them to go away. Sarah has the same borderline mental retardation as george w bush. Why do we still pay attention why do we still care, this is such a dead subject. Also most sensable people realize no one wants to hear someone say do as I say not as I do. It's unrealistic to young people.

aaron, it is time for you to take your meds now. You can stop projecting your personal problems onto the Palins

Bristol, hun, you dont have to wait until you are married to have sex. Its really dumb to deprive yourself of intimacy. Intimacy is touching your soul. What you do is you have intimacy with protection until you get married. Now is that too hard to understand. Geeeez!!!

I think Middle School & High schools are a much better venue for Bristol. By the time students enter college it's too late.
