'The Beaver' Whodunit: Final Cut Stolen from Mel Gibson's Mailbox

It has to be said: Everything about 'The Beaver' is weird...and getting weirder!

Mel Gibson's final cut of his new comedy 'The Beaver,' loaned to the actor by Summit Entertainment for a private screening at his Malibu home, has been reported stolen. And someone allegedly swiped the DVD right out of Gibson's mailbox.

A lieutenant with the sheriff's department in Malibu/Lost Hills tells the Hollywood Reporter, "When the courier came to pick it up [Wednesday between 10:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.], it wasn't there....Apparently, someone prior to the courier took it out of the mailbox and made off with it."

Will Mel Gibson, or 'Beaver' director (and Gibson ally) Jodie Foster, sic any investigators on Oksana Grigorieva on suspicion of launching some kind of bootleg operation? Gibson's certainly accused his ex of covert media leaks in the past!

"It's a $10 DVD. We're treating it as a petty theft at this point," says the officer, downplaying the prospect of any major punishment, should a culprit be apprehended. He adds, "It's a misdemeanor. It's considered a minor crime."

'The Beaver' follows Gibson's character, a troubled husband and father, as he seeks a cure for his profound existential funk by communicating with loved ones solely through a plush beaver hand-puppet. The quirky film will premiere at this spring's South by Southwest festival in Austin, Tex., and open on U.S. screens March 23.

Well Simon, Mel has done some really great things as an actor and director, and I know he's been sitting down with a Rabbi regularly since that incident on the highway. I also know Jodie Foster, a lesbian, considers him a dear friend and that he's got a hell of a lot of talent. Things aren't as black and white as you make it and the flick could be a hoot for that matter. Are you still watching Charlie on Two and a Half Men? If so your words mean nothing anyway.

Don't worry about seeing it. It is not at all "juvenile," so you probably won't get much out of it.

Hmmm "minor crime" -but I thought it was a FEDERAL OFFENSE to mess with someone elses mail.

Actually since it was left in the mailbox, for a courier to pick up, it was an illegal act to start with. Thus since it was contraband, the federal law should not apply and only state law does aka petty theft. Whether the movie is any good, is an opinion left to the minds of the viewers.
