Javier Bardem Scores Big James Bond Offer
Javier Bardem has been offered a major role in the newest James Bond film,
Moviefone reports, proving money woes and development hell cannot keep 007 down.
Early in January, word hit that 'Bond 23' still had Sam Mendes gearing up to direct, and a not-so-far-off release date of Nov. 9, 2012. Since then, buzz has been on the rise, and just days after word hit that Judi Dench would
return to the franchise,
Deadline revealed Bardem was offered a starring role in the film.
Bardem won't play Bond himself, of course -- that honor still belongs to Daniel Craig, who's ready to tackle the shnazzy icon for the third time. The offered role is being kept under wraps, but it's not too hard to guess.
As Deadline notes, the leading male name traditionally goes to the villain of the film, and Bardem is certainly a go-to choice for the bad guy, following his chilling -- and Oscar-winning -- turn in 'No Country for Old Men.'
Rumors bubbled up recently that Bardem might play the God of War in the 'Clash of the Titans' sequel, and now his name is
all over the rumors for Ron Howard's adaptation of Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower.' But there's no telling which he'll go with. Bardem recently turned down a villainous role in 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,' for example.
So, which project should he choose? Is it time for Bond to face Bardem? Heck, could Bond even dream of besting Bardem?

Dang, I was hoping that somehow Javier Bardem had been offered the Bond role. Sorry, but James Bond is not short, blonde and blue eyed as D. Craig is. I've seen the first two Craig / Bond movies and I just didn't buy it. Won't buy this one either.

will he have to show an ID?

I think he does a good job of choosing his parts. He turned down both Nine and Wall Street II, which were pretty good moves, and did a smaller movie instead, Biutiful. Now he another Oscar nomination. He will go with whatever movie is more quality.

I am excited at the prospect of a movie based on Kings' "The Dark Tower" series. I have not decided if I like Ron Howard directing yet, it seems a role that would go to someone a bit darker than Howard. The part of Roland would be played by Bardem quite well I think.

what they need is NEW english dark haired bond. daniel craig ONE OF THE WORST. talk about a wooden,just typical action movie kind of star. gerad butler or hugh jackman would be the BEST bond's. and they need to bring back that savy type of bond. all bond movies now a days just look like crappy action movies. THATS NOT BOND
