Nicole Kidman Explains Meaning Behind Baby Faith's Name

Just like big sister Sunday Rose, Faith Margaret Kidman Urban has sentimental meaning behind her name. Beaming parents
Keith Urban and
Nicole Kidman walked the SAG Awards red carpet in Hollywood Sunday night, where they fielded several questions about their
new baby girl, born Dec. 28, 2010.
E!'s Giuliana Rancic asked Nicole where the name Faith came from.
"We needed to have that through the whole pregnancy," Kidman explained. "That's what it required was a lot of faith. Her name is Faith Margaret ... People call her just Faith, but she's actually Faith Margaret, that Southern double name. Margaret is my grandmother's name. She had her last baby at 49, so she's my inspiration."
Urban and Kidman's oldest daughter has a similarly inspired name.
"Particularly when you don't have someone in your life ... in my experience, Sunday was the loneliest day," Urban revealed on '
The Ellen DeGeneres Show' back in 2009. "It went from being the most dreaded day of the week for us to being the most joyous day, because we just had a family."
Sunday's middle name, Rose, was the name of Urban's late grandmother.
Sunday Rose was born July 7, 2008, joining older half-siblings Isabella and Connor, Nicole's two children from her marriage to
Tom Cruise. Sunday was the first biological child for both Kidman and Urban. Faith Margaret is also the couple's biological child, but was born via a gestational carrier. Her impending arrival was kept top-secret, with her famous parents choosing not to announce the pregnancy and waiting until about three weeks after the birth to tell their fans.
"I wanted to tell everybody because I was so excited about it, but at the same time we decided this was our thing together," Kidman explained of keeping mum on the pregnancy. "It kind of just perpetuated itself, and at the end we decided, OK we'll make an announcement. If we can get all the way through, why not? It protects her, and it protects everyone in the situation."
Urban and Kidman have at least one more red carpet to walk before Urban kicks off his Get Closer world tour in April. Kidman is up for an Academy Award for her performance in 'Rabbit Hole.'

Glad that they are happy. Faith in God is important.

No it isn't. It just depends on the individual and which particular fairytale they choose to believe in.

Gestational carrier? Is that the new PC term for a surrogate mother? Or is it in hopes that if one doesn't ever refer to the woman who grew this child inside her as a mother that she won't be at all attached to the child she gave birth to? Very weird.

Would you prefer the term "rent-a-womb" because that is all this woman was - the woman in question offered a service she could provide to a couple who could NOT do this themselves. The baby itself is entirely biologically the couple in question, so it is not exactly the same as surrogacy, which sometimes is and sometimes isn't the woman in question's child. I say brave to the gestational carriers willing to do this for another woman, even if they do charge a ton of cash, when you can't carry that child yourself it's a priceless service to you!
Celebrities think nothing of hanging odd names on their children, it does make them different, but not in the nice way. these kids have to defend themselves for the rest of their lives. I have nephews with awful names, I can never remember what they are and just say hey you.

Like your screen name??????? What is wrong with your birth name that you don't use it????????hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Maybe they kept it secret because it was a 'grudge pregnancy' ~~ Some guy had it in for Keith !

I can't get past them "hiring" a "surrogate" to carry this baby for them......Why couldn't Nicole have another pregnancy like before? Is she that VAIN?? Might ruin her "schedule" and her svelte body? What about all of us "other" schmucks that have to give birth to our own children???? She should have given birth herself to that child. I love her, and think she's a beautiful sweet lady, but.........this is so far out, when she is perfectly capable of giving birth from her own body!

Get over yourself. Nicole has trouble with pregnancies. She has had several miscarriages. She fortunately was able to give birth to Rose;but, Nicole is older now too and more chance of another miscarriage.
Has nothing to do with being vain, but everything to do with being smart. At her age and with her history, why take the chance, she might even die trying to have another baby and then where would Sunday Rose be.....without her mother. I hate that people say things like that, at least they wanted another child, it will not end up in a dumpster like some do and it will be loved and taken care of forever. She knows her body better than you do, how dare people make such stupid remarks. Thank goodness for the women that are willing to help others have a baby and not risk the mother's health, just because someone thinks that she was perfectly capable of giving birth to her own baby! Good grief!
Barbara, I am certain that she is overwealmed with sorrow that you can't get past it. You are an idiot!! What part do you pay in her life? Do you know anything about past medical problems she has had? Why doy ou really care? Is your life so empty that you must judge others? Why not clean up your own life, home, yard, family and then see if you can still judge others? Meanwhile..MYOB!!!!
Apparently this couple didn't have enough "faith" to follow the moral teachings Of Kidman's Catholic faith-of which claims to be a faithful adherent as far as I know- about bringing children into the world. I actually respected Kidman for leaving scientology and returning to her Catholic faith. (Yes, her marriage to Urban is considered valid by the church. Her marriage to Tom Cruise was either annulled or never even considered valid by the Church.) What ever their motives, this incident did not impress me.

Its amazing too me hou many judgemental people are in this world who have no idea how hard it is for some woman too have a child and its so easy for others to concieve, there are couples that can give a child love a stable home who want families. Keith and Nicole seemed too be very loving parents. I believe that they will make wonderful parents to their new edition...
not judgemental
What does Catholisism have to do with it? I'm a Christian (tho not Catholic) and I suspect my pastor and church friends would be thrilled for me if I couldn't physically have a child, but did through a "carrier" (I admit that name irritates me for some reason). At least they're producing a child they dearly want and are providing for it. It's a little weird at first blush, but the child is loved. It's not up to us to decide.
Faith is a beautiful name, unlike some of the weird names those celbs give their poor kids...I'd hate my parents forever if they ever taged me with a weird name to carry with me for the rest of my life..how could they be so cruel?

Kidman is up for an Academy Award for her performance in 'Rabbit Hole.' I thought she was a rabbit - you know. But she wouldn't have Keiths child so why the faith thing on her last child bit. It doesn't hold much water!?

These ladies like Nicole and Sarah Jessica don't like what the babies did to their bodies so they just pay a surrogate, plus their babies probably have low birth weight cause they don't eat!

You know what, people like you really need to get a clue! I was blessed to be able to have my daughter, but after could not have another child and suffered many losses trying. Who the hell cares if they went to surrogate. Why is it when a couple want to have a baby everyone else has to judge them. No one says anything about her adopting two children, and I think that is wonderful. This was their choise and it is a privet choise that they made. I am soo tired of the way people put others down when you have no idea until you have gone down that road yourself! In my case I chose to adopt a child too, because of women like Nicole. So until you have gone threw the pain of losing a baby many times dont judge!
