Report: Ricky Gervais Asked to Host Golden Globes Next Year

Despite previous reports that Ricky Gervais was banned from ever hosting the Golden Globes, it seems that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) might have had a change of heart.

The Daily Mail reports that Gervais revealed in the U.K. magazine Heat that he has been asked to present the Golden Globes next year. But the actor and comedian did not say if he accepted or rejected the offer of hosting the awards show for a third time in a row.

Gervais wrote, "The ratings went up again, and the organisers asked me to consider a third year. (But) I don't think I should. I don't know what I could do better. I certainly couldn't get more press for them, that's for sure."

Gervais continued, "I did exactly what I went to do: improve on last year's and have a laugh. The response was staggering. It was discussed on every news channel and chat show for weeks. The weird thing is, the question is always, 'Did Ricky go too far?' And the answer is always, 'No.' I have yet to find anyone who was actually offended by it."

Gervais recently went on CNN's 'Piers Morgan Tonight' where he defended his Globes hosting performance. Gervais said, "I'm not sorry for anything I said, because I'm not going to apologize for being true to myself. I don't care what people think of me. I care if I've done a good job, and I care if I've told the truth."

He continued, "They [the HFPA] hired me for a job, and if they didn't want me, they shouldn't have hired me."

Gervais came under fire for crossing the line at the annual awards show, which was broadcast worldwide. The comedian took jabs at actor Charlie Sheen's latest scandal, Robert Downey Jr.'s arrest record, Hugh Hefer's new engagement and the failure of 'The Tourist,' among many others.

Many people, including some celebs in the audience, took offense to some of his jokes. One star who voiced his apparent displeasure at some of Gervais' act was Robert Downey Jr. After the comedian joked about Downey's past addiction problems before introducing him on stage, the unhappy star quipped back.

"Aside from the fact that it's been hugely mean-spirited, with mildly sinister undertones, I'd say the vibe of the show is pretty good so far, wouldn't you?" Downey said to the audience.

Judd Apatow, director of recent hit movies like 'The 40-Year-Old Virgin' and 'Superbad,' even mentioned Gervais when he played host at the Producers Guild Awards (held Jan. 22). Apatow wasted no time slamming Gervais, and reportedly laced his monologue with profanities in the process.

Ricky Gervaise's joke about the famous Scientologist pertending to be straight was about John Travalto, not Tom Cruise. Apparently Carrie Fisher accidently outed John Travolta in an article and since then the John Travalto gay/bisexual rumor has been popping up left and right and slowely spreading. I had started to wonder years ago is he was gay because of his voice and other mannerisms, but then I dismissed it when I saw he had kids. But could it be true like Rickie Gervais and Carrie Fisher are saying. Not that is matters. I'm all for gay rights. But is it true? Is John Travolta gay?

I do'nt know about John Travolta's proclivities, but Ricky G should tell everyone to kiss his wide British arse. He is funny (see Extras), and if certain stars want their own a**** kissed, the should bend over and do something for themselves.

Ricky hurt their little feelings, but they all know, Ricky was hilarious, and great at it. Some of these hollywooders are so self absorbed, they cant take a joke.
Most of them are quick to make jokes on others though.
It was nice to see some of it, go back in their faces for a change.
Now they want him back,, I think that says it all.
I hope he tears them a new one this time, dont hold back one bit.

Why all the hatefulness and meanspiritedness? There is enough of that in this world, that is has to be injected into an awards show. What about all the overpaid athletes out there? Should they be subjected to humiliatation at awards shows? And why? What's the point?

So - at first they were all offended (boo hoo! Ricky was mean!)and now they want him back simply because of ratings. Ratings = Money. Of course, that's all what it boils down to. Hypocritical and pathetic, Hollywood.

He was the worst host ever. Bringing him back would be a huge mistake. His jokes fell flat and really he just wasn't all that funny. They can do what they want, but I'm betting that if he's next year's host, the ratings won't be so high. I mean, I watched this year, but then tuned out partway through because of him. Yet, my digital box recorded me watching so there was a ratings influence there. But next year, if he's the host, I won't even tune in and I know I'm not the only one. He just wasn't entertaining.

From the pictures (taken by his 'friends') that I saw of Travolta when he lived on King's Road in West Hollywood in the 70's, and the friends I had who "dated" him, there's no question in MY mind that Travolta is, at the very least BIsexual, if not altogether Gay...WHO CARES? Except the leaders of the Scientology cult he gives millions to!!

I think Ricky Gervaise was the worst host ever, just plain boring. He was totally not funny and some of his remarks were way out of line. If he does host again, I will not watch the show as he is not humorous at all. Hope Golden Globes changes its mind.
