'Saturday Night Live' is in hot water this week thanks to a controversial skit it aired during last weekend's show.According to E! News, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is up in arms over a parodied commerical for a fake product called Once Daily Estro-Maxx, a pill designed to "give you all the sex-changing hormones you need."
Male 'SNL' cast members, including Bill Hader, are pictured as transgender women talking about their bodies and hormone levels.
"The piece was a mock commercial for estrogen replacement therapy and featured men with facial hair wearing dresses, meant to represent transgender women," GLAAD said in a statement. "This segment cannot be defended as 'just a joke' because there was no 'joke' to speak of."

But the thing is...the skit wasn't funny. Haha men with facial hair in a dress? Uh, no. I don't think SNL meant to be malicious, but I can see how some transgendered people could feel offended and made fun of for something that goes much deeper than a dress and outside appearance.
Sometimes advocacy groups can go overboard in their "outrage," (ahem PETA) but in this case I can see their point.

I'm 56 and I've been watching SNL since its first season. One of the things I've always loved about the show is they have no sacred cows, they go after everyone and everything and they don't pull any punches.
Yeah a lot of it is moronic crap, but when SNL nails it, they nail it like no other show on TV ever has, and that applies universally, even when they're making fun of people who share my outlook on life, or perhaps ESPECIALLY then.
A wise SCOTUS justice once observed: "It isn't inoffensive speech that needs protection."
GLAAD needs to dial up the lithium and petition for a sense of humor transplant.

One of the funniest series of SNL was Eddy Murphy doing Buckwheat...so, GLAAD bags, get a life...we're all targets, and sometimes they hit it on the head (pun intended...)

So when you think things are changing and equality/acceptance is on the horizon, SNL does such a stupid thing. Shame on SNL!

I thought last weeks show as a whole was the funniest I've seen from them in a long time.
Geeez GLAAD grow a set and get over yourselves, it was a skit. I bet you all thought the Palin bashing was funnier than crap, oh boy know that the 9" high heel is on the other foot you are all crying like bi*ches.

This skit was HILARIOUS! GLAAD really?? Get over it. This SNL skit was just silly and funny, with the operative word being "SNL". Please find something really discriminating and disparaging to scream about it and I'll be the first to support it. Trust me - this ain't it!

The skit was very funny and SNL makes fun of all real life people and situations so calm down GLADD

Oh, waahhh waahh! GLAAD, you want some cheese with that whine? Get a life and stop pouncing on everyone you think has made the slightest little remark about gays, transgenders, etc. This politically correct BS is getting really old. If you don't want people to make fun of you, stop acting like a bunch of fruitcakes.

This is too funny! The most liberal show on television being blasted by the most liberal of liberal ideals! The same group was laughing their new organs off when it was Sarah Palin and George W being featured on SNL!

That is the funniest skit that I've seen by far.
Go SNL keep us laughing!

I'm gay and it was funny. Sorry GLAAD, I disagree with you on this one. SNL spoofs everyone equally.

Put all those fake people to sleep!!!!

They cry if they are left out, they cry if they are included.
GLAAD needs to get over themselves and get a sense of humor.
We laugh in your general direction!!!!!!!!!

Angry and miserable?
I guess you didn't see all the Tea Party events.
Talk about angry and hateful and for what, someone trying to make your life better.
These are the same people that say I want the gov out of my life and dont put your hands on my medicade, medicare,ss etc.
Just plain old crazy|
So mike you need to get out more often because there are more hateful and angry people out there than the small population of gays and transgender people.

Let's just get our little feelings hurt because we're sensitive, and need only the things we can ram down the throats (ooopphhs!) of everyone who abhors our demented lifestyle to be said. Don't do anything to make fun of us or we'll cry boohoo, boohoo! Oh, you bad, mean normal people out there! We're gonna tell the dimwitocrats on you. You'll see, you ole meanies.
