Christina Aguilera, always a pro singing the national anthem, couldn't make it through 'The Star-Spangled Banner' before the kickoff of Super Bowl XLV. Aguliera, who has handled the task without issue before NBA games, botched the lyrics badly halfway through the song.Instead of "O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming" turned into "what so proudly we watched at the twilight's last [unintelligable lyric]."
Luckily, Aguilera had the quick, crowd-rousing "rocket's red glare" line to follow it up, which she nailed and got the packed Cowboys Stadium quickly on her side.
Still, our eyewitnesses in Dallas tell us that the crowd had some drastic reactions. "This was the biggest performance of her career and she blew it," a source with a VIP view tells me. "To mess up the lyrics was a disaster."

It is most DEFINITELY the most important performance of her life. Do you know how many people she represents when she sings that song?? Do you know what kind of honor it is to be asked to sing that in the friggin superbowl??? It's the star spangled banner... far more important than singing "genie in a friggin bottle" or something... She did mess up, because when she sings that song it should be about this country and the history with pride, not about how many pitch changes she can do.

Not only did she miss the words, she did not get the melody right. There are no warbles in the National Anthem. I wish singers would stop doing that. It sounds terrible.

That will hopefully teach us to get a professional who has sung the National Anthem before to sing at the super bowl. WE DO WANT A BEAUTIFUL VOICE TO DO THIS !!!

FYI:Whitney's version of the anthem that set the standard was not live. It was actually recorded in the studio.

Forget the singer, why cant you sing the song with the correct words? This new generation of whatever do not know what my dad and family members who fought in wars to protect this country, that as a kid we knew every word to every patriotic song and sang them at school, plus we knew how to spell!!

Yep nothing important at all about honoring your country! This was far more important than selling CD's and tickets, she only took on the job of singing Americas anthem at the #1 sporting event in America. Then droped the ball, how sad that you think it is no big deal. I would imagine there are thousands upon thousands of Egyptians that would get thier anthem corect. That is one of the problems in this country no pride just that sense of entitlement. The one that alows people to say this is no big deal. Take some pride in where you live and what we should represent.

She was quoted by Reuters as having performed The National Anthem publicly many times, since she was 7. Hasn't she learned the words yet?
Roseanne Barr disrespected professional sports, imitating the crotch-grabbing, tobacco-spitting habits of baseball players, but at least she knew the words of the song.
