Joan Rivers Reams Christina Aguilera Over Star-Mangled Banner
EXCLUSIVE: Christina Aguilera has pipes of steel, but her memory failed her on Super Bowl Sunday when she
flubbed the ramparts out of the Star-Spangled Banner. With great gaffes come great amounts of criticism, and although the singer has tried to explain herself ("I lost my place"), she couldn't escape the wrath of Joan Rivers.
"How stupid can you get?" Joan asked when I talked to her on Monday. "Christina must have been thinking about food, that's why she forgot the words."
Before the big game, Christina belted out "What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last reaming" instead of "O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming." It was the second time she sang the "What so proudly" line, but before she used the word "gleaming" instead of "reaming."
The 'Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?' star continued using Christina's oft-fluctuating weight to rough up Christina, and offered a line she thought she could have used, "O say can you see ... french fries." Joan snarked that there was an upside to Christina's fluctuating weight. "She's gotten so big," -- here's where you say
how big is she? -- "She looks like she could eat Lady Gaga. Great way to get rid of competition."
After 'The Star-Spangled Banner' wrapped, Aguilera headed backstage where a source told me that the singer was "devastated" by her mistake.
Aguilera addressed her performance in a statement to the press. "I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."
Joan made her own appearance during the Super Bowl as well. She's the new Go Daddy girl and
starred in their big ad this year. Jillian Michaels and Danica Patrick spend the :30 ad introducing their newest model, but you don't catch a glimse of her face until the last second.
"They were looking for someone stupid to be their new spokesperson," she tells me. "I'm now
Joan.co. It couldn't be any easier."
She added, "Those 2 Go Daddy girls are haters. Jillian kept looking at my body, and I said,
'Oh please, Jillian.'"
Though she's
joked on Twitter that it was actually her 77-year-old body in the ad, the buxom figure reportedly belongs to model Tabitha Taylor, who starred in a popular Go Daddy ad for the 2009 Super Bowl.

Very well said. Why people try to change it I will never understand. Change your own history if you wish, please leave the great history of this country alone. thank you.

Worst rendition of the star spangled banner I have ever heard.
Don't ever invite her back.

All I'll say is it was a bad choice in the first place.

It would be alright if this was her first time singing the anthem in a public venue but it's not. She is a professional who performs around the world and rehearses for those shows to make sure she knows what she is doing, so what happened no rehearsal? Besides I would be interested to see how many "Americans" actually know all the words to the national anthem. It is a shame that we as a people do not take more pride in our national anthem, I mean it should be required, mandated learning and so should the pledge of allegiance -- all political correctness aside -- we as a nation are going to wither and die if we do not teach the importance pride in our history to our children.

The National Anthem is one of the most butchered songs of all time, by many artists. So she made a mistake. At least she can sing. Fergie and the Peas were horrible. And Joan Rivers looks like nothing but skin stretched across a dead skull, which she will be soon.

Even if she remembered the words her and Black Eyed Peas SUPER SUCKED

Christina should have been prepared, but Joan Rivers is a has been.
The only shows she has done lately were reality tv shows to try to rev up her nearly dead career.
She should have retired gracefully when she saw she couldn't get any real show.

Having listened/observed over countless years the mispronounciation/offkey renditions of "Star Spangled Banner " ,perhaps it's time to switch to "America The Beautiful " which ,for this author, would be the anthem of choice ...

I think she should have just sung the song the traditional way instead of all those pitchy fluctuations. She probably would have remembered the words if she just sung the song the way it was meant to be sung.

Aggy was horrible. Why not just sing thoese beautiful words without making it sound like the south side of town on saturday night...Any "pro" should remember the words. I would have voted her off Idol.

I like Christina & I feel bad for her. She did mess it up but I certainly forgive her. I'm even gonna keep her a Myspace friend.
Now the half time show was the worst! Bring back some "REAL BANDS".

I wish they had gotten the guy who sang it at the last two Chicago Bears game. He was fantastic.
There's a difference when someone sings it with pride vs someone who sings it for the media attention

@gdwn411, those of us who served have stood on the world stage and done far more stressful things than remembering the words to a song, show some respect, as for Aguilera, what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, she can remember how to be almost morally bankrupt in a country that doesn't punish her for that, why not remember the national anthem. this is what happens when you take the pledge of allegiance out of school. No pride or respect for our nation. and by the way... GO PACKERS!

I agree that a singer of this gal's experience should have been able to sing one of the most familiar songs in the world. She certainly has conquered stage fright by now. What was so appalling was the way she rendered a revered and symbolic part of our history. Every word was extended by several vowels and the pitch went everywhere. Thank God Francis Scott Key was not here to suffer through this travesty. (Do you think the singer even knows who wrote this iconic tribute?)

Christina was CLEARLY on drugs of some sort. How disgusting and disrespectful. Joan and her daughter are always disgusting and disrespectful.
