Ashlee Simpson Files for Divorce From Pete Wentz

After two and a half years of marriage, Ashlee Simpson has filed for divorce from her husband, Pete Wentz. TMZ reports that Simpson, who married the former Fall Out Boy bassist at her parents' California home in 2008, filed documents in LA County Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the cause of their split.

The singer-actress, who has a 2-year-old son, Bronx, with Wentz, is seeking primary physical custody of the child in addition to sharing legal custody with her ex. The pair released a joint statement to PEOPLE that asked for privacy and stressed their commitment to their son.

"After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce," the couple said through a spokesperson. "We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our No. 1 priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives."

Just last month, Wentz gushed to PopEater about his excitement over spending time with his family.

"The great thing right now is that my family is very mobile and are able to tour with me," he said. "And I think that's the only thing that would've been a hurdle. But the fact they're kind of able to go, I want to be back out there."

Simpson is seeking spousal support from Wentz, with whom she reportedly had no prenup.

The couple began dating in the fall of 2006, but denied the relationship for months. They announced their engagement in April 2008 and married a month later at the Simpson family home. Her dad, Joe, a former minister, officiated the ceremony.

Hey mahafakir, now that's a weird name....sounds like? So, let em get this right. SHE's a star? A star of what? gettin a nose job and tryin to follow in her sisters' shadow? Face it....She married a musician, and got the attention she needed. Now he wants to devote his life to his music....on the road. Now we all know what happens on the road...which obviously takes precedent over being a responsible parent. Simple.

I love how Hollywood types all release "official statements" always saying the same thing: "We have both made the difficult decision to go our separate ways. We remain friends. We are saddened. Please leave us alone. blah, blah, blah..."

Why can't they just be real and say the truth: "Our over-inflated egos clashed so we just said what the hell, it's only a marriage... no big deal. Besides, we're two crazies from LaLaLand, so this is pretty much the norm. Now let's drag this out in the media so I get more press."

If these people want to sleep around together, then do so. But, don't bother to get married, have kids, and then (as predicted) divorce. If Pete's idea of spending time with his family if having them go on the tour with him and saying that if they didn't, it could be a hurdle......sounds like Ashley didn't care for that idea.

He's a musician in a world-famous band, so OF COURSE he's gonna have to go on tour from time to time. What are they, stupid? Why didn't they discuss this scenario and agree on how they would handle it BEFORE they got married? That's what normal intelligent people do. Oh wait... I just answered my own question.

Why do celebrities even get married? They take divorce so lightly and I am sure contribute to the growing national divorce rate. It's sad, especially when there are children involved.
