Ashlee Simpson Files for Divorce From Pete Wentz

After two and a half years of marriage, Ashlee Simpson has filed for divorce from her husband, Pete Wentz. TMZ reports that Simpson, who married the former Fall Out Boy bassist at her parents' California home in 2008, filed documents in LA County Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the cause of their split.

The singer-actress, who has a 2-year-old son, Bronx, with Wentz, is seeking primary physical custody of the child in addition to sharing legal custody with her ex. The pair released a joint statement to PEOPLE that asked for privacy and stressed their commitment to their son.

"After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce," the couple said through a spokesperson. "We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our No. 1 priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives."

Just last month, Wentz gushed to PopEater about his excitement over spending time with his family.

"The great thing right now is that my family is very mobile and are able to tour with me," he said. "And I think that's the only thing that would've been a hurdle. But the fact they're kind of able to go, I want to be back out there."

Simpson is seeking spousal support from Wentz, with whom she reportedly had no prenup.

The couple began dating in the fall of 2006, but denied the relationship for months. They announced their engagement in April 2008 and married a month later at the Simpson family home. Her dad, Joe, a former minister, officiated the ceremony.

exactly...she doesn't want him but she'll take his money. isn't alimony for women who need time to stand on their own two feet. she has the ability to make money on her own.

Very sad about this news. They were a good couple while it lasted, but I'm not surprised about the divorce. Pete has been struggling with his sexuality since before he ever came onto the rock scene. He's as gay as it gets, and marrying Ashlee is just going through the motions. Not saying he doesn't love her in his way, but he needs to figure himself out before he can offer himself as a spouse or partner to anyone else.

I get so sick of selfish parents divorcing and then saying how devoted they are to their children. The best thing parents can do for their kids is LOVE each other (love is a verb) and work through their issues and give these innocent children a family. No one said it would be easy.

Oh yes, let's stay married for our children so that when they grow up they wind up in relationships just as messed up as their parents' because that is what they know.
Some issues cannot be worked through. In my opinion, it is better to divorce and lead a truthful life than to stay married and live a lie "for the kids". This is what they want so noone should fault them for it. I am pro-divorce and pro-marriage. If the situation calls for it than it is the right thing to do. You are not in their situation, you shouldn't judge.

And this is surprise to anyone? lol The only thing I'm surprised at is it lasted 2 years. It's just fact, unless your one of the very, very few (like getting struck by lightning few) that can find their true partner at a young age like that, and stay till your old and grey, young'in marriages never last. The maturity level isn't there.
