Can a 'Terrified' Christina Pull It Together for a Grammy Comeback?
Christina Aguilera will try to shake off her
disastrous Super Bowl performance with a tribute to Aretha Franklin at Sunday night's Grammy Awards. Sources close to the singer tell me she's still shaken up by her "Star-Mangled Banner" moment and prays this performance will offer her a chance at redemption with fans.
"This is a huge night for Christina so she's leaving nothing to chance," an insider tells me. "All the lyrics to her number will be in a TelePrompter at the event so it will be almost impossible for her to mess up again."
We all know the girl can hit the right notes (what a voice!), but it's good to know she's got a safety net for a little thing called lyrics.
Since her Super Bowl performance, Christina has come under fire from critics suggesting she has been spiraling out of control since she announced her divorce, and there were even some vicious reports that she might have had a few too many drinks before the big game. (Others still have suggested Xtina has been out of sorts since her last studio album, 'Bionic,' failed to sell.)
But as one of her biggest hits makes perfectly clear, Christina is a true "fighter" and will no doubt rebound from this setback.
"You would be a fool to count Christina out," a friend of the singer's tells me. "She has been down before and always found her way back. Sure, she's going through a lot and yes she is terrified, but mark my words, on Sunday when she opens the Grammys, no one will be talking about the Super Bowl anymore. This girl is in the to win it."
Ronn D. Torossian, president & CEO of 5W Public Relations, agrees, telling me, "Christina will recover, this was a mistake, not blatant disrespect. While this was a very high profile flub, in the annals of her career this will be seen as a footnote and not as the headline. This too shall pass, and she will absolutely recover."
After all, everyone is rooting for her. Jared Shapiro, executive editor of Life & Style, says, "'Burlesque,' the Super Bowl and Grammys -- if this is a down year, I can't wait to see her comeback!"

Oh good grief. The woman sounded horrid and made the national anthem sound like a mess. Forgetting the words was the least of the problem. I personally think they should forget trying to make it a "public image" thing and just hire a trumpet player and let the fans sing the song. People who try to put their own spin on the melody and timing end up making fools of themselves and a joke of the anthem.

OMG she's human...she made a mistake while singing a difficult song live in front of 111 million people. Can we cut the girl a break and move on please?

RIGHT ON, STEPHANIE, I AGREE!! HUMAN ERROR!! THE PUBLIC IS CRUEL!
Absolutely right. Could've happened to anyone, and has.
AGREE MAYBE NEXT YEAR THEY CAN GET ROSEANNE BARR SING IT AGAIN
...........at practice she sang a few stanzas and then quit....if she sang the whole thing she would have seen her weakness. Its not so much she forgot the words she mangled the whole thing, its NOT A POP SONG, she doens't make it hers, it belongs to the country and if she and others cannot sing it they ought to graciously decline.
Well said. Ironically, I believe Aretha Franklin, to whom Christina is paying tribute at the Grammys, also flubbed the lyrics to the SSB many years ago at a major event. I agree, though, with those who said she should have finished her rehearsal and then some. This song has taken down many a balladeer. Honestly? I don't know how the young people today even know the lyrics. I don't think they learn them the way we did at school where you were expected to learn it and it's history.
She flubbed because she 'reaming' on her mind
" lastnights last reaming"
I agree. Anyone who thinks they can get up there and do it so gracefully, have at it. REMOVE THE PLANK FROM YOUR OWN EYE, BEFORE TRYING TO PLUCK OUT SOMEONE ELSE'S.
Hey, Stephanie .......... a difficult song to sing??? You gotta be kidding! Every kid born and raised in the USA learned that song from the time he or she began school. Christina sounded like a cat with it's tail in a wringer. Francis Scott Key must be rolling over in his grave! Shameful!
You can't apologize for her campy, skanky behavior little momma. She had no business using such a high profile activity to do her Detroit yodeling and bellowing act.
You and your bozo bobble heads can apologize for her horrific yodeling and bellowing all you want. The damage has been done and with luck her career will be damaged as well.
Give her a break, all the haters, lets hear you sing in front of that many people.
Ditto, Stephanie. What the hell. This young woman has an amazing voice with a range from God. She made a mistake and mind you our National Anthem isn't easy to sing. Sadly it is the media that is perpetuating this rubble..Please move on!
She is a pro. Seems strange to say she is terrified! Well, get over it girl.

She'll be fine as long as she sings without the idea of trying to impress everyone. Her problem at the Superbowl was she was trying to prove to everyone that she is a better singer than the Glee girl who sang before her and got lost trying to impress and not entertain. You could see from the beginning that she was trying to upstage the young lady before her.

I don't believe she was trying to impress anyone, this is her style of singing. "To err is human, to forgive, devine".
The Glee girl's rendition of God Bless America was horrible! It sounded like a cheesy American Idol Audition, WAY over the top. I couldn't wait for it to be over. Aguilera was over the top AND messed up a line, so she's all we're talking about. I wish celebrities could just sing the traditional songs the way they are written and not try to add their own "style."
