Can a 'Terrified' Christina Pull It Together for a Grammy Comeback?
Christina Aguilera will try to shake off her
disastrous Super Bowl performance with a tribute to Aretha Franklin at Sunday night's Grammy Awards. Sources close to the singer tell me she's still shaken up by her "Star-Mangled Banner" moment and prays this performance will offer her a chance at redemption with fans.
"This is a huge night for Christina so she's leaving nothing to chance," an insider tells me. "All the lyrics to her number will be in a TelePrompter at the event so it will be almost impossible for her to mess up again."
We all know the girl can hit the right notes (what a voice!), but it's good to know she's got a safety net for a little thing called lyrics.
Since her Super Bowl performance, Christina has come under fire from critics suggesting she has been spiraling out of control since she announced her divorce, and there were even some vicious reports that she might have had a few too many drinks before the big game. (Others still have suggested Xtina has been out of sorts since her last studio album, 'Bionic,' failed to sell.)
But as one of her biggest hits makes perfectly clear, Christina is a true "fighter" and will no doubt rebound from this setback.
"You would be a fool to count Christina out," a friend of the singer's tells me. "She has been down before and always found her way back. Sure, she's going through a lot and yes she is terrified, but mark my words, on Sunday when she opens the Grammys, no one will be talking about the Super Bowl anymore. This girl is in the to win it."
Ronn D. Torossian, president & CEO of 5W Public Relations, agrees, telling me, "Christina will recover, this was a mistake, not blatant disrespect. While this was a very high profile flub, in the annals of her career this will be seen as a footnote and not as the headline. This too shall pass, and she will absolutely recover."
After all, everyone is rooting for her. Jared Shapiro, executive editor of Life & Style, says, "'Burlesque,' the Super Bowl and Grammys -- if this is a down year, I can't wait to see her comeback!"

I'm not only dissappointed in her messing up the lyrics, but also that she improvised so much. One would think that a professional would prepare for something like the Superbowl. Eventhough her voice was good, it came off as a bunch of look what I can do type of singing.

Agree totally! The song is beautiful and inspiring on its own, without all the screaming and odd notes thrown into the mix. Just sing the song without all the embellishment. In this case the song is much more important than the singer.
Perhaps if she puts the bottle down long enough to memorize the lyrics and stop parroting her musical heroes when she doesn't have what it takes...not really.

Both girls sounded off,I love Christina but was very disapointed I think Simon Cowell said it best, Christina sounded like cats being stepped on

The anthem is patriotic and touching but its not an easy anthem to sing. The high and low tones are challenging, and, of course, one has to know the lyrics. I'm sure Xtina is not the first or last to goof it up.

She can't keep her nose out of the coke bag long enough to remember her own address. Of all the singers in our great country, she is not on the list!

Sure, she will sing, and hit all the notes and won't forget the words with the teleprompter there. She is human, and is going through many changes in her personal life, so this affects everything she does; Personally though, I have to say that I find Aguilera's constant vocal runs beyond excessive. Her vocal histrionics have nothing whatsoever to do with the song she 'sings'. She shouts, screams the notes. Aguilera's 'singing' is devoid of feeling, nuance, and tenderness. It's all about the darn notes. That's why I'm not a fan and I don't buy her records. I know she can sing, I know she has a voice, but I hardly get to hear her take on anything 'cause she's too busy wailing and doing vocal runs...Wish she would stop doing that.

The National Anthem should be reserved for State occasionsIf you want to be patriotic ,start the game, gala festivity with a recording of Irving Berlin's,
" God Bless America " sung by Kate Smith.
I guarantee she'll never screw up the words and you will have a stirring rendition
