Lindsay Lohan Pleads Not Guilty to Felony Grand Theft; Judge Admonishes Her

A Los Angeles judge had some harsh words for
Lindsay Lohan today: Don't screw up again or you'll end up in jail with no chance of bail. The troubled star was in court to answer a felony charge that she stole a pricey gold necklace from a jewelry store near her home.
Lohan meekly answered, "Yes sir," when asked if she understood the charge against her – grand theft of personal property totaling $2,500.
Then her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, pleaded not guilty on behalf of the starlet.
Lohan's string of problems stemming from dirty tests after a misdemeanor DUI conviction left the prosecutor in no mood for leniency. Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers – who filed the previous case against Lohan -- asked the judge to violate her probation from that case.
Meyers struggled to get Lohan to serve serious jail time following several court hearings last year, but the most time she ever spent behind bars was two weeks.
This time, Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartrz imposed a $40,000 bail and then gave a stern warning.
"You are in a different situation now with a felony filed against you," he said. "If you violate the law, I will remand you and set no bail."
Schwartz, not swayed by Lohan's celebrity, told the star that "you need to follow the law just like everyone else. You are no different than anyone else, so please don't push your luck. I'm telling you -- things will be different!"
Lohan answered in a small "yes" when asked if she understood. She was also ordered to stay away from the store, where employees became "alarmed" when someone from Lohan's camp sent flowers, Meyers said.
Then Lohan was taken into custody by sheriff's deputies until a bond was posted.
Contrary to previous court appearances where the judge was kept waiting up to an hour, Lohan was 15 minutes early. She swept into the courtroom flanked by Holley and a group of deputies, wearing a skin-tight white mini dress, no bra, 4-inch black pumps, and oversized sunglasses.

The charge stems from her visit to Kamofie & Company jewelry store in Venice on Jan. 22, where she was seen trying on a gold necklace that turned up missing. The image was captured on a store surveillance camera and other photos surfaced of Lohan wearing the necklace outside the store, the LA Times reported.
As LAPD detectives prepared to serve a search warrant on her home, an acquaintance of Lohan's returned the necklace to a police station. That didn't resolve the issue and the case was filed today.
Lohan remains under investigation for an incident at the Betty Ford Center in Palm Desert on Dec. 12. She was completing a court-ordered stint in rehab when an employee claimed that she was pushed by Lohan.
Lohan's next court appearance will be Feb. 23, when her attorney will have a conference with the prosecutor in hopes of settling the case before trial.
"The next court hearing is common in courts throughout LA County ... the court will see if the case can be resolved successfully before the preliminary hearing," said LA County District Attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.
This isn't the first time Lohan has been accused of having sticky fingers. In 2007, she was accused of stealing $10,000 worth of shoes and accessories from a former friend. Then in 2008, she "accidentally" grabbed an $11,000 blond mink coat from a New York club, then was later photographed in her impromptu loaner much to the chagrin of its rightful owner.

she already has 20 gran is nothing to her .house arrest what a joke. were is the 4 wheeler to ride around the yard
Mike, your absolutely right !!!! We new it would be a slap on the hand.
She not being in jail has nothing to do with who she is..Jails and prisons are for people who are violent felons, drug addicts belong in treatment whether it be 12 step, opiate replacement, Rational Recovery, or even religion...More than half of our Prisons are filled up with people who don't belong there
PHN
IT IS TIME TO LOCK HER UP !!! AND IN WITH REST OF THE JAIL BIRDS NO BAIL JUST JAIL !! NO TEARS JUST 3 YEARS!! SHE HAS DONE THE CRIMES SO PAY UP AND DO THE TIME
Gee, I wonder why she thinks she's above the law? Throw the skanks arse in jail and lose the key. What a waste of humanity.

How many chances does she get? Lock her up. What is going on with this judge!!!
I could say the same thing about you.Maybe you are the one who is a waste of humanity...How can you say something so ugly about a person you don't even know..Be careful Tommy boy, your jeliousy is showing loud and clear

Pat I agree. Also, Lindsey has gone to jail and rehab. And the size of that bond, I've seen people charged with murder get smaller bonds. I'm glad I'm not a celeb, I couldn't handle such great treatment.
I find it hard to believe that she would steal the necklace on purpose unless she has the mental disorder kleptomania. I tend to go with the story that she forgot to return it. Why would someone who can afford anything she wants steal a 2K necklace? I think that the cops are just looking for a reason to lock her up..Give the poor lady a break and arrest real criminals..BTW, don't even go into her alcoholism, the two things have nothing to do with each other..

She simply thinks she's above the law. She's FRIGGIN LILO, for heavens sake!!!! She deserves anything she can steal. AND it's ok for her to physically abuse anyone she can get her filthy hands on (like the worker in her rehab facility.) Can you say DIRT BAG, boys and girls?
PHN who are you, her personal advocate or what?
Poor, lets see how "poor" some carjacker is when they steal your car. he poor ones here are the people she stole from, they are the victims. If someone broke into your house and stole you diamond engagement ring, I doubt you'd be crying these crocodile tears for that invertebrate. She's a waste of time and she should be thrown out of LA already.
how many times must she break probation to be sent to jail its quite a double standard of law we live in where semi famous people do as they please maybe we should be holding the judges to a higher standard

That dress is going to make Big Bertha in prision want her more as her sex slave.

The State of California ought to take this piece of highly publicized white trash, throw it deep in some dungeon, and toss the key into San Francisco Bay. She will never be a responsible human being and I am getting sick and tired of hearing about her trying.

How liberal would Judge Schwartz be if she was just a girl from the hood? He is not doing a favor.
She needs to dry out alot longer then a few weeks! But,I don't think anything will help, she loves the attention to much!!!!

Plus, her parents love the publicity! Now, they can get on the tube & defend her. Yuck!
