Lindsay Lohan Pleads Not Guilty to Felony Grand Theft; Judge Admonishes Her

A Los Angeles judge had some harsh words for
Lindsay Lohan today: Don't screw up again or you'll end up in jail with no chance of bail. The troubled star was in court to answer a felony charge that she stole a pricey gold necklace from a jewelry store near her home.
Lohan meekly answered, "Yes sir," when asked if she understood the charge against her – grand theft of personal property totaling $2,500.
Then her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, pleaded not guilty on behalf of the starlet.
Lohan's string of problems stemming from dirty tests after a misdemeanor DUI conviction left the prosecutor in no mood for leniency. Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers – who filed the previous case against Lohan -- asked the judge to violate her probation from that case.
Meyers struggled to get Lohan to serve serious jail time following several court hearings last year, but the most time she ever spent behind bars was two weeks.
This time, Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartrz imposed a $40,000 bail and then gave a stern warning.
"You are in a different situation now with a felony filed against you," he said. "If you violate the law, I will remand you and set no bail."
Schwartz, not swayed by Lohan's celebrity, told the star that "you need to follow the law just like everyone else. You are no different than anyone else, so please don't push your luck. I'm telling you -- things will be different!"
Lohan answered in a small "yes" when asked if she understood. She was also ordered to stay away from the store, where employees became "alarmed" when someone from Lohan's camp sent flowers, Meyers said.
Then Lohan was taken into custody by sheriff's deputies until a bond was posted.
Contrary to previous court appearances where the judge was kept waiting up to an hour, Lohan was 15 minutes early. She swept into the courtroom flanked by Holley and a group of deputies, wearing a skin-tight white mini dress, no bra, 4-inch black pumps, and oversized sunglasses.

The charge stems from her visit to Kamofie & Company jewelry store in Venice on Jan. 22, where she was seen trying on a gold necklace that turned up missing. The image was captured on a store surveillance camera and other photos surfaced of Lohan wearing the necklace outside the store, the LA Times reported.
As LAPD detectives prepared to serve a search warrant on her home, an acquaintance of Lohan's returned the necklace to a police station. That didn't resolve the issue and the case was filed today.
Lohan remains under investigation for an incident at the Betty Ford Center in Palm Desert on Dec. 12. She was completing a court-ordered stint in rehab when an employee claimed that she was pushed by Lohan.
Lohan's next court appearance will be Feb. 23, when her attorney will have a conference with the prosecutor in hopes of settling the case before trial.
"The next court hearing is common in courts throughout LA County ... the court will see if the case can be resolved successfully before the preliminary hearing," said LA County District Attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.
This isn't the first time Lohan has been accused of having sticky fingers. In 2007, she was accused of stealing $10,000 worth of shoes and accessories from a former friend. Then in 2008, she "accidentally" grabbed an $11,000 blond mink coat from a New York club, then was later photographed in her impromptu loaner much to the chagrin of its rightful owner.

When will the courts start treating these criminal stars as they do everyone else? She needs to be in prison, and three strikes, she needs to stay there.

Do you even realize how stupid your post is. If you hate the girl then that is your problem, but to mention 3 strikes on someone who has never had a violent felony is downright evil..Prison is for violent felons, not for drug addicts and alcoholics unless they cause harm to another human being. People like you are so ignorant of the legal system its a joke..Here is an example, a man is a sexual predator and gets 18 months for being a pedofile, but a drug addict who has been arrested for nothing more but possestion of drugs goes down for 25-life because he got pulled over and there was a used up old joint in his car..So don't give me the she needs to be given a 3rd strike..I am happy I don't know you because you are a mean vile person

This B*tch has 9 lives! May Lindsay (and Charlie Sheen) rot!

Well Roberto, I guess you are a perfect person.. If you wern't so damn ignorant you would notice that the cops are making some kind of example out of her..She is not anymore special than you or me, but if you look out from your ivory tower you would see that she will get more time than a normal citizen, and that is because she is famous and cops hate her because she has money..You claim people that are in the entertainment industry get special treatment, well something is wrong with that picture.I just found out that a close friend of mine was murdered by her neighbor who was just let out of a mental Hospital/prison way too soon..She was a mother, a daughter a wife a sister and a friend to many, so maybe if the crooked cops would go after real criminals and leave people like Lidnsey alone there would be less rapes and murders in Ca..

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your close friend. I found your reply referring to "Roberto" to be very indicative of the type of person you are. You accuse him of being ignorant yet you misspelled the contraction " wern't " ( it has two e's in it - weren't ) and Lindsay is spelled with an "a" not an "e" as you spelled it. Have a wonderful night.
Give me a break. What the heck is wrong with our legal system? How many more chances does someone get? Obviously she has not learned a damn thing from her MANY arrests, her rehab. And then again maybe the system is waiting for her to kill herself. If this was someone else they would have been locked up for a long time. Is our government so stupid or is it being paid off like the Maddof ponsey skeem?
If I were arrested for the same thing and sent to jail I would have a diffinate discrimination case against the government. Is this were our tax dollars go toward-supporting the stars & tell me "Is this a new series on Stars that Escape from their crimes" Unbelivable

Told you she wouldn't get any jail time...no surprise there!

A supposedly professionally written article throws in "LiLo"? By doing that the writer subtly suggests support of the thief/actress. Bad, bad journalism.

Linds will be back, this is not quite over as of yet, the same with other matters. I along with other Linds fans hope for a good twist to all current situations. Go Linds, you rock, always have and always will. You go girl.

What does she have to do, kill someone before they throw the book at her? She probably already thinks she can get away with murder, and hey, maybe she can? How pathetic!

Just wait. She'll kill someone soon enough, with her drunk driving or maybe she'll cause permanent mental damage when she whacks someone else with her cellphone like she did to the worker at the BFC.
She won't make it to age 30.
Really? A judge finds that she violated her probation, but decides against keeping her in custody? Haven't we been through this before? I think Californians need to take a real close look at their courts and judges - something's wrong.

That is why California is broke. They don't know how to make the correct decision!
I would bet that if she were in almost any other state but California she would be behind bars. States like Texas or Virginia or Florida would not put up with her BS.
LOL what a frigging train wreck she is. I need to win the lottery, I want to be first in line when she starts whoring herself out for booze and prescription drugs once her career is officially over.

I am so tired of hearing about poor Lindsay and her Mother.
Put her away and lose the key.
I have grandchildren and I don't want them to think "real" people could ever get away with all this. Anybody else would be in jail already. Why should she get such special treatment time after time?
Send her to Judge Judy, AMEN!

I guess she thinks that the entire world is really stupid and going to believe her story about the necklace being "loaned" to her. Too bad the judge didn't immediately send her to the slammer for violating her probation. At least then she'd be around when her trial starts. Were we all supposed to be impressed with her skintight dress too? Anyone going to court on felony charges doesn't dress like that!
