Lindsay Lohan Pleads Not Guilty to Felony Grand Theft; Judge Admonishes Her

A Los Angeles judge had some harsh words for
Lindsay Lohan today: Don't screw up again or you'll end up in jail with no chance of bail. The troubled star was in court to answer a felony charge that she stole a pricey gold necklace from a jewelry store near her home.
Lohan meekly answered, "Yes sir," when asked if she understood the charge against her – grand theft of personal property totaling $2,500.
Then her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, pleaded not guilty on behalf of the starlet.
Lohan's string of problems stemming from dirty tests after a misdemeanor DUI conviction left the prosecutor in no mood for leniency. Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers – who filed the previous case against Lohan -- asked the judge to violate her probation from that case.
Meyers struggled to get Lohan to serve serious jail time following several court hearings last year, but the most time she ever spent behind bars was two weeks.
This time, Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartrz imposed a $40,000 bail and then gave a stern warning.
"You are in a different situation now with a felony filed against you," he said. "If you violate the law, I will remand you and set no bail."
Schwartz, not swayed by Lohan's celebrity, told the star that "you need to follow the law just like everyone else. You are no different than anyone else, so please don't push your luck. I'm telling you -- things will be different!"
Lohan answered in a small "yes" when asked if she understood. She was also ordered to stay away from the store, where employees became "alarmed" when someone from Lohan's camp sent flowers, Meyers said.
Then Lohan was taken into custody by sheriff's deputies until a bond was posted.
Contrary to previous court appearances where the judge was kept waiting up to an hour, Lohan was 15 minutes early. She swept into the courtroom flanked by Holley and a group of deputies, wearing a skin-tight white mini dress, no bra, 4-inch black pumps, and oversized sunglasses.

The charge stems from her visit to Kamofie & Company jewelry store in Venice on Jan. 22, where she was seen trying on a gold necklace that turned up missing. The image was captured on a store surveillance camera and other photos surfaced of Lohan wearing the necklace outside the store, the LA Times reported.
As LAPD detectives prepared to serve a search warrant on her home, an acquaintance of Lohan's returned the necklace to a police station. That didn't resolve the issue and the case was filed today.
Lohan remains under investigation for an incident at the Betty Ford Center in Palm Desert on Dec. 12. She was completing a court-ordered stint in rehab when an employee claimed that she was pushed by Lohan.
Lohan's next court appearance will be Feb. 23, when her attorney will have a conference with the prosecutor in hopes of settling the case before trial.
"The next court hearing is common in courts throughout LA County ... the court will see if the case can be resolved successfully before the preliminary hearing," said LA County District Attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.
This isn't the first time Lohan has been accused of having sticky fingers. In 2007, she was accused of stealing $10,000 worth of shoes and accessories from a former friend. Then in 2008, she "accidentally" grabbed an $11,000 blond mink coat from a New York club, then was later photographed in her impromptu loaner much to the chagrin of its rightful owner.

Now imagine if she was an inner city, ghetto, African-American girl. Would she really be walking out of the courtroom today?
Not on your life. No wonder she thinks she is above the law.

SHE wouldn't get away with it if she was an ordinary white girl either. A black girl would get away with it before an the white girl would.
It's snow white! Or is that coke white?

Seriously, why do we care about this person. She's just plain trash and wants to see what she can get away with. Lock her up and make her do ALL of her sentence. That "might" teach her a lesson.

just like everyone predicted: the judge gave her a warning. lohan's thinking: it's party time! the california justice system is a pathetic.

It's always nice to know how the two tiered System of Justice works in LA. One for Lindsay Loser and one for the rest of us.
Can you imagine, she has a bail bondsman waiting in the wings.
So Lindsay Loser, besides F'n up......what have you done lately?

Damn she is hot in that dress.
I don't care if she murders people she should be able to do whatever she wants!!
SHE IS SO HOT!!
YOU Rock LL

wow another warning, what a shocker. these california judges are a joke. their warnings mean absolutely nothing to these celebrities, as you can see. if it was anyone else they would be in jail already. like paris hilton, spent what, 15 min in jail? what a joke. they keep pamperiing these idiots

Who gives a crap? With our economic problems, unemployment rates, wars, bullying, (the list goes on and on). I think she WAS a very talented little girl who now is a grown-up who is spoiled and doesn't know what to do except drugs, sex and a pretty wasted life.

Who are you to judge anyone..She still and always will have talent, she is not a criminal, she has a diease called addiction.Have you ever heard of this diease?? If not, I suggest you educate yourself, and if you still feel the same way then I feel sorry for any child of yours who will have this diease because you are either ignorant, stupid or one of those people who think addiction is a choice...I think you should be pittied
PHN
@ pat: So, she's got an addiction to stealing as well as drugs and alcohol? Doubt it. She stole it, she thought they'd "forget" she was the one who walked out with it, and now she needs to pay her dues. She violated probation not just once, but multiple times, now let's see that jail time. Prison is an EXCELLENT treatment for addiction.
ANOTHER warning - wow, that'll straighten her out - wonder what I would have gotten if I'd stolen the jewelry

6 months in jail which you would of been raped if your hot, heavy fine and 3 years of probation!
WELL, THE RICH GET RICHER, AND DON'T HAVE TO FACE UP TO THEIR CRIMES, AND NO TIME....THE POOR GET POORER, AND MORE TIME FOR THEIR CRIMES..

Innocent until proven guilty unless you're on probation? Seriously? We the people need to stand up and fight this! They're actually putting innocent people behind bars.

I think that there is a gigantic hole in her defense. Jewelry stores lend jewels to stars for promotional purposes. Who would possibly lend a necklace to LL. She is not a star. In fact, she is much better known for her criminal activity.

WTF She will keep doing whatever she wants because the idiot judges will not give her what she needs...Time in JAIL...She has had chance after chance to get herself together and she doesn't...Why? because she does what she wants and gets away with it. If this had been a nornal citizen we would have been in Jail with serious time not frolicking all over LA buying new clothes and stealing Jewelry. I am 22..she needs to grown the hell up and get over herself.

She is hot, yum yum yum!!!

Consequences to every action you take..she needs to grow the heck up.

I get so tired of seeing all the crap she does. The judge says he will do this or that if she does this or that and they do nothing. If this one of us we would be making little rocks out of big ones and putting them back together again, Oh, sorry, they don't do that any more. We would be in jail, watching cable, using the internet, lifting weights, playing basketball, smoking dope, and making Freddie a happier person. Get with it legal system, either we have one or we don't. Put her butt in jail and leave it at that. She is no one more special than anyone else. It doesn't matter how popular or rich she is, she should still get a long sentence for grand theft.
