Miley Cyrus Talks Bong Video: 'I've Never Claimed to Be Perfect'

The last year has brought its fair share of trouble for Miley Cyrus, from her bong-smoking video to her parents' split, but it seems the 18-year-old pop princess has come out unscathed and with some new perspective on her life.

"I've never, ever claimed to be perfect," the erstwhile Hannah Montana tells Marie Claire (via HuffPo). "I mean, since I've started the show, I've always said, 'I'm gonna make mistakes.' I know this. And I think that that is one of the reasons why people related to me. Why kids related to me."

Prior to her turbulent turn into adulthood, Cyrus was no stranger to scandal, somehow finding enough time in her already jam-packed schedule to pose for some allegedly racist pictures; engage in some mildly sexy, PG-13 style phone photography; show the Teen Choice Awards audience a kind of dancing most people need a stack of singles to see and yes, even diss Jay-Z.

What might have been impossible struggles for another star have seemed to roll off Cyrus' back, showing the world that at the heart of every teen queen is just a teen.

In the new interview, Cyrus opens up about becoming a woman under Hollywood's harsh spotlight, part of which involved her now-famous salvia video.

While the star doesn't fault her peers for doing the same things she's done, she says her videotaped session of tripping was a poor choice considering her high-profile life. "So for me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for," she says.

What may have truly been the last vestige of Cyrus' childhood, her parents' seemingly rock-solid 18-year-marriage, came crashing down just weeks before Cyrus' 18th birthday.

Despite the myriad personal and professional troubles that have plagued the young star over the course of her career, she remains optimistic about the future, hoping to "spread love and change the world in 2011."

Now how's that for the best of both worlds?

Why don't you actually be a parent and raise your kids up with some morals? Do your job and don't expect an 18 year old to teach them right from wrong. She doesn't owe you or kids anything other than some decent music. Nothing more.

Why do I think a lot of the people (especially women) criticizing Miley probably have daughters about the same age who are giving their little boyfriends a head job every week and think nothing of it?

You are so right because, as Sharon does not seem to understand, no matter how well you raise your kids, teens at some point will look up to and idolize the "pop tarts" of the day, and this kind of example does not help parents who struggle to keep kids straight in today's poisonous social environment.

Yes,you sign on for Disney shows that teach moral principles and sell eight-year-olds all kinds of crap with your name on it, you DID sign on to be a role model. You put yourself into that role and made a boatload of money pretending (not just on the show either) that you were a good person who cared about your young fans. YOu cant pocket your millions of dollars and say that you never signed on to be a role model. She and her family preyed upon young kids and threw them away when her lunch box sales started to drop.

If these kids could live one moment of their lives without videoing, texting photos, social twit pics, facebook postings, etc, they wouldn't keep getting into trouble! Kids try things - and I'm sure most celebrity kids do, too. Difference is those 20 years ago and older didn't feel the need to social network their every move. Quit it, especially when you're "being bad"! If I were Miley, the next time I hang out with friends I'd have them dump their cameras, cell phones, smart phones or whatever into a bag at the door. You can have them back when you leave.
