Miley Cyrus Talks Bong Video: 'I've Never Claimed to Be Perfect'

The last year has brought its fair share of trouble for
Miley Cyrus, from her
bong-smoking video to her parents'
split, but it seems the 18-year-old pop princess has come out unscathed and with some new perspective on her life.
"I've never, ever claimed to be perfect," the erstwhile Hannah Montana tells
Marie Claire (via
HuffPo). "I mean, since I've started the show, I've always said, 'I'm gonna make mistakes.' I know this. And I think that that is one of the reasons why people related to me. Why kids related to me."
Prior to her turbulent turn into adulthood, Cyrus was no stranger to scandal, somehow finding enough time in her already jam-packed schedule to pose for some allegedly racist pictures; engage in some mildly sexy, PG-13 style phone photography; show the Teen Choice Awards audience a kind of dancing most people need a stack of singles to see and yes, even diss
Jay-Z.
What might have been impossible struggles for another star have seemed to roll off Cyrus' back, showing the world that at the heart of every teen queen is just a teen.

In the new interview, Cyrus opens up about becoming a woman under Hollywood's harsh spotlight, part of which involved her now-famous salvia video.
While the star doesn't fault her peers for doing the same things she's done, she says her videotaped session of tripping was a poor choice considering her high-profile life. "So for me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for," she says.
What may have truly been the last vestige of Cyrus' childhood, her parents' seemingly rock-solid 18-year-marriage, came crashing down just weeks before Cyrus' 18th birthday.
Despite the myriad personal and professional troubles that have plagued the young star over the course of her career, she remains optimistic about the future, hoping to "spread love and change the world in 2011."
Now how's that for the best of both worlds?

Number 1, she had nothing going for her to begin with, no looks, no style, I never did understand why my grandchildren thought she was so great, not anymore. The only thing that made her what she is today is that she is Billy Ray's daughter. Showing her so called sexy side isn't even sexy. Just go away and stop confusing our young generation.

So why does the media continue to praise these people? And we wonder why our children are behaving as they do.....?????

I really don't care for her show, and I never understood why someonee would want 4 -8 yr old little girls squealing her name. I don't think the Bong thing was a mistake, it showed people she grew up right in friont of them. Miley there's a joke round here it goes something like this... never see someone that toked a joint mad or pissed. Mellow fellows, ladies & gents. Atleast the girl ain't drunk falling all over herself. Alcohol is acceptable and the number one problem. R.

Seven months ago I predicted that Ms. Cyrus would be in rehab within 18 months. At that time she was still "Miss Role Model Clean" but interviews were starting to show a glimpse of the future. Daddy's little meal ticket was starting to roll. I hold with the original prediction...Within 11 months she will be on her way or already in rehab. Sad, really...

we ALL have made choices we wish we could redo...or take back...to me, as long as they are not fatal or immoral, we should learn from mistakes. that's they way things USED to work before the government stepped in to protect us from everything.

Read carefully. She's not upset about doing drugs, posing for skanky pictures, being sexually active before 17. No, she's upset she took videos and got caught.
Not too long ago she was doing the 'holier than thou' I'm such a good person and role model that Hollywood will never affect me. gosh shucks, I'm a country girl.
That was bull then and bull now.
And what's with the phony accent? she was raised in California to do the show, and no one in Flatwood KY has that accent either.
I'm sick of the excuse, every teen does these things and makes mistakes. I didn't. My daughter didn't. Her friends didn't. Not all kid actors do either either.
Natalie Portman made it to adult hood with grace and dignity. She didn't turn into a skank to prove she's an adult.
