Video: Christina's Critics Find That Singing the National Anthem Isn't That Easy

Christina Aguilera's already-notorious "
Star-Mangled Banner" is days behind us, but it's still the talk of a very cold town. We hit a chilly Times Square to see what people were saying about Christina and her flub in front of a record Super Bowl audience of 111 million.
Most we talked to believe that the singer's talent outweighs her botching the lyrics to 'The Star-Spangled Banner.' But when it came time to see if critics and fans could do much better, we quickly saw that right lyrics or not, Christina has a leg up on the competition.
Are people harsh in their critique of Christina, and can they put their money where their mouth is? Watch:
Christina Aguilera's supporters (and there were many) don't have to wait long for a comeback. She will try to shake off her disastrous Super Bowl performance with
a tribute to Aretha Franklin at Sunday night's Grammy Awards. Sources close to the singer
tell PopEater she's still shaken up by her "Star-Mangled Banner" moment and prays this performance will offer her a chance at redemption with fans.
"This is a huge night for Christina so she's leaving nothing to chance," an insider told us. "All the lyrics to her number will be in a TelePrompter at the event so it will be almost impossible for her to mess up again."

Lordy, look at that pic...she looks like she's in pain. Hope she shows a little more R-E-S-P-E-C-T for Aretha than she did for the National Anthem. Sure, Aretha's been known to wail and add some extra soul to her songs but not to the point of 'PLEASE GIRL, STOP' like Christina does way too often. Give it a rest woman. Ever hear of less is more?

This doesn't really justify anything. She had something these people didn't--advance notice and rehearsal time. True, everyone messes up once in a while, but in my mind, a bad rendition is a few bad notes, not mixing up the words of a song you've heard all your life.

She needs to fix that ugly weave.

And she has sang the song hundreds of times . The version she sang at the Superbowl was so out of control I didn't recognize the melody .... less warbling and more being on note would help .
More trash ...OMG please stop... nobody cares if they have a life...

Becasue you can find people dumber than Chrisina, that does NOT make her any smarter. Just as the fact that you can find plenty of people who can't sing, but that doesn't mean Christina CAN. She can't. All she knows how to do is over sing to the point that cat who's tail is under your tire gives a better rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

First off Xtina is a pro & not someone off of the street. Have other pros messed up the Anthem? Yes. But as I've said before, how about just singing it, rather than putting some spin on it or doing their "rendition". Maybe if she did that she may not have messed it up. No one will ever top Whitney Houston who just sung it but they all seem to try & Xtina's attempt was one that went wrong.

I didn't like stylizing the National Anthem 50 some years ago when Jose Feliciano did it at the World Series and I still don't like it. The audience should be able to sing the National Anthem along with the celebrity singer who is leading it. There is no way you could follow Christina's painful interpretation. Never mind that she messed up the lyrics. I can forgive that. But to look and sound like someone just stepped on your bunion is rediculous. Lead the song. Get off the stage.

The sounds and gesticulations of Christina's interpretation made me think someone was stepping on her bunion. Forget that she messed up the words. That doesn't bother me nearly as much as the showmanship. Just lead the song. Get off the stage.

The National anthaum would be a lot easer, if the people singing it would practice it more than once. If you don't know the meaining of the words, that knowladge is hidden in a secret place, called a dictonary. look it up D'uh

The fact that you can't even spell the word anthem does not bode well for your ability to be able to sing it.
She's a professional who gets paid big bucks to get it right. No excuses!

I know I can do better!

I don't understand why all these stars think they have to do their rendition of a song that is perfect to begin with! All this wailing and screaming does not make it any better. Please just sing our National Anthem the way it was written with feeling where it is suppose to be. If they aren't moved by the words singing them maybe they should read them first and research the song to find out when it was written and why. Then they should be able to sing it with true feeling!

I couldn't agree with you more. It seems that being invited to sing the National Anthem is a challenge to see who can murder the song more. If anyone sang "God Save The Queen" like that they'd never perform again.
The simple truth is the woman can't sing, her range is terrible.

The impromptu Time Square individuals were not tapped on the shoulder to sing America's National Anthem for the Super Bowl. Unlike Christina, they did not have weeks to prepare for the song, so of course, they would have a hard time on the spot.

Look on YouTube and you will see clips of Xtina butchering this song over and over. It's not that she screwed up the lyrics, she just can't sing it straight / with respect. In one clip she even has a drummer to lay down a funk beat for her and end the song with "and the home of the brave,,,,,,,yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!" Despicable
