Kevin Smith: 'Seth Rogen Turned Me Into a Stoner'

Breaking news: Kevin Smith and Seth Rogen smoke weed. OK, maybe it's not so surprising, considering the "stoner" movies the two have been involved with in the past, but Smith sat down with MTV News to explain how funnyman Rogen recently turned him onto marijuana -- and how it's the best thing that has happened to him in five years.

Smith, who directed Rogen in 2008's 'Zack and Miri Make a Porno,' claims Rogen is one of the most talented people he's ever worked with.

"I got so much from him," he said. "He re-energized me in a weird way. I became a stoner because of Seth Rogen."

Smith was in awe of how Rogen could be a "functional stoner," showing up to the movie set and be "brilliant" and "constantly writing [and] productive."

The director had only tried marijuana a handful of times in the past and said it was his idea to share a joint with Rogen on the last day on the movie set.

"It was awesome," Smith said about the experience. "We sat back, watched some footage and sat there smoking. And I loved who I was. I loved how the inhibition dropped away and I loved just being honest."

And he hasn't stopped since. The director claims he's had the most productive years of his career thanks to Rogen -- and weed.

"That dude gave me the greatest gift I've had in the last five years," Smith said. "The moment I start smoking, I start working. ... No one could ever say, 'You fat, lazy piece of s**t stoner!"

Great to hear more people spreading the good word about marijuana. Drugs affect people differently. Some people won't have good experiences with marijuana. Some people's lives are forever changed for the better. We're not a one-size-fits-all species. Don't like marijuana? Don't smoke it. Don't like that other people smoke marijuana and like it? The problem is yours, my friend.

Except for, you know, laws and drug testing at your job. Idiot.

Above we have a man claiming that doing drugs makes him more productive. Even most druggies will laugh at this, and rightly so. Then again, Smith's career has been in the toilet for a while anyway, so this is the final decline for him.

No, FosterBoys, the problem is yours because: (1) It's illegal.(2) Just like cigarette smokers, others smell your nasty smoke, who might be allergic to smoke and you're damaging their health. That makes you rude and selfish. (3) You are clearly delusional if you think it helps you. It makes you lazy and worthless, loud and irritating....and there is no such thing as a 'functional stoner'.

I would much rather spend time with a weed smoker, than to have to be around a drinker.

You all prove my point perfectly. Don't smoke it. It's not for you. But you seem awfully invested in making sure that no one else has that option. And J, I don't think you're an idiot. I don't even think that legalization opponents are delusional. You're just misinformed. It happens. No one thinks you're stupid because you've bought into the propaganda.

No, Susan, the problem is yours because: (1) Marijuana's criminality is based on bad science; (2) If you believe that something is inherently wrong based on its legal status, then you are relying on someone else to think for you; (3) I don't have a problem with your cigarette smoke because you are limited to where you can smoke it. I don't have a problem with the stench of alcohol because you are limited to where you can drink it; and (3) people who are lazy, worthless, loud, and obnoxious are that way whether they smoke marijuana or not.

I agree with him. I'm an artist, and the best work I ever did (and the most) was during the years I smoked daily. I was motivated, focused, and creative.
