Source: Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz Married Too Young

Since Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz filed for divorce, no mistresses or cheating allegations have come forth. There have been rumors that Pete didn't want to call it quits, but Ashlee was reportedly fed up with her hubby's "erratic" behavior.

Now, a source close to Simpson tells PEOPLE that two simply married too young and weren't ready to balance their demanding work schedules with family life. "It was honestly a classic case of marrying young, having a kid young and growing apart over the years," says the source.

Ashlee and Pete married in May 2008, when Ashlee was 23 and Pete was 28, and their son Bronx Mowgli Wentz was born in November 2008. (Yes, do the math. Ash was certainly no virgin bride like big sis Jessica claimed to be when she first tied the knot!)

Ashlee has kept a low profile to focus on raising her 2-year-old son, but she's missed working and being in the spotlight. "Ashlee was the one with Bronx a lot of the time, and that's a lot," the source says. "Ashlee loves being a mom, but she also loves being a performer and she wants to badly get back to that."

Pete was "away from (Ashlee and Bronx) a ton working himself, and the balance was just off." Ashlee, who is 26, isn't the first in her famous family to have an early marriage and divorce. Her big sister Jessica was married at 22 and divorced at 24.

Despite the stories surrounding Ashlee and Pete's split, the two are said to be working things out "amicably" and have said they "remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our No.1 priority."

That's not young? 23 & 28 is YOUNG! Average age in America for marriage is 31 & going UP UP UP every year. Statistics prove the younger you get married, the higher the rate of divorce.

So yes, that is VERY young.

They were not too young to get married. My in-laws got married when they were 17 and 37 years later they are still married. I married my husband when I was 19 and 10 years later we are still in love and making it work. It just depends on how much people are willing to give and take with their life long partner.

She's a very gracious, kind and warm person. He's a nice guy also. It's sad to see them divorce, but there are much bigger problems in life and their problems don't amount to a hill of beans.

Seriously? I got married at 22, I'm an army wife, and we have gone through more hardships, like 2 deployments for instance, in the 3 years we have been married than any stupid celebrity couple, and our marriage is GREAT. These idiots don't even try to keep their marriage afloat, it's like they do it for the party, get sick of eachother, and get divorced. PUKE.

Congrats and consider your self lucky then. Sadly it is not only celebs that divorce and divorce often, but they don't have the priveldge of doing it in private.
I am a divorcee, remarried now for 10 years also. I married at 19 the first time, and YES, I was too young and too immature but it did not make me a bad person.
I remarried at 32 and this time I was ready, and I am happy.
Just because someone's married doesn't work it doesn't make them selfish, or horrid or stupid or ugly or anything...mostly it just make them sad.

God bless you and your family. I got amrried at 18 and still together. We will be married 31 years in Aug and still very much in love and happy. These celebs don't put much effort into their marriages.
