Grammys 2011: Ladies Antebellum and Gaga, Along With Arcade Fire, Shine

Before tonight, there were parts of the county who probably thought Lady Antebellum was some sort of degenerative bone condition. Now, the pop-country group has emerged as the king of Grammy night and a force to be reckoned with on the music stage, outshining 10-time nominee Eminem, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry to win multiple awards. But in the end, the top prize (best album) was a bombshell, going to Montreal indie-rockers Arcade Fire for their hit, 'The Suburbs.'

We debuted the song.
8 ET | The show opened with a star-studded tribute to Aretha Franklin, featuring Christina Aguilera, Martina McBride and Jennifer Hudson. Aretha, who has been ill of late, made a taped appearance to thank her fans. Aguilera, who sang well one week after flubbing 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at the Super Bowl, apparently fell while exiting the stage.

Out of 109 awards, only 10 are given out on Grammy night, so the real focus is on the performances. The show kicked off with a rousing tribute to soul legend Aretha Franklin with
Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride, Florence Welch and Yolanda Adams tackling Franklin's classics.
The ladies kicked things off with a group performance of '(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman' before launching into solos of 'Ain't No Way,' 'Until You Come Back to Me,' 'Think,' 'Respect' and 'Spirit in the Dark.' The divas closed with 'Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves.'
The standout performance of the night belonged to
Cee Lo Green when he and Jim Henson's puppets broke out a hilarious version of 'F**k You.' As the AP notes, "It was easily the show stopper in a night of performances that included a tribute to Aretha Franklin, a retro performance from Bruno Mars, a dazzling number by newcomer Janelle Monae that was James Brown-esque, a collaboration with Mumford & Sons, the Avett Brothers and a very raspy Bob Dylan."
As big as an upset that Arcade Fire's Album of the Year was, the topper of the evening probably belonged to Esperanza Spalding, who beat out Justin Bieber for best new artist.

The M&M album is ok. Why haft to curse and snarl at everything thouugh, tho, though. Ok. Life is tough. Most of the time I have a pretty good time. Liked Recovery, and hope he recovers.

Rhianna needs our support. When she performed tonight, was she wearing a bag of garbage or what?

Lady Gaga looked like an unhatched termite egg. It made me sick. But I like her music :)
Reply
Just thinking, maybe Gaga's dress hatched out of the old meat dress she left laying around unrefrigerated. Hmmm. Like recycling.
Reply
Like Gaga's music, but arrival in egg a bit much. Eminem as far as I'm concerned, looks like recovery may have been short lived. GLAD Bieber lost, about time. Congrats 2 winners. Don't agree? Well "Forget U 2" LOL!!!
Reply
Umm, Eminem's album that won was RECOVERY - DERRRR!!!!!!
Reply
So glad that Justa Beaver (and his hair) lost!
Reply
Rhiannon- Aware album won. Meant recovery short lived, as in recovering from something that appears 2B reoccurring... Perhaps merely the way he looks.

Bob Dylan has got the mojo, always has.

Whateverr...he sounded horrible.
Worst Grammy's ever! what a sham! country songs won?? yeiks, puke, iuuuu.
Best album: arcade who.....booooooooo
So disappointing! will never watch this show again.
The perfomances were OK though. Loved Emimen, Dr Dre perfomance...so powerful and heartfelt.

I like to 'know' whose the moron who 'judges' what the stars 'wear' to this event ? Some of the things said are WAY out of line and others are just WHAT were you thinking. Some of the 'remarks' are on the mark when the star is 'dressed' to the nines and shows it. Other remarks are 'ridiculous when the star 'obviously' looks HOT and the judge 'disagrees' . They need someone like ME and Perez Hilton to do the judging as WE would do it RIGHT !!

Aretha Franklin looked elegant. I could not watch most of the show as I cannot stand the screaming ( used to be known as singing) and all the yeah, yeah, yeahs...I recently saw Christina A. in the movie " Burslesque" and I thought she had a great voice and acted her part very well. It was a good movie. When all those ladies get on the stage and try to sing louder than the others, it just kills the performance. All show and little talent.

Thank God for Esperanza Spalding!! She has more talent in her little finger than that POS Bieber does in his(?)entire body. I can only hope he(?)will crawl into a hole and never show his(?)face again. Congrats Esperanza! Portland loves you!!

So glad Beiber isn't recognized by his peers (lol). He's totally not worthy of a coveted Grammy award.

I fast forwarded through the "The Suburbs" to get to the big winner of the night. When they announced Arcade Fire, I choked on my coffee. Huge disappointment.
