During her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album, an emotional Lady Gaga thanked Whitney Houston, saying she imagined the legend singing her latest smash, 'Born This Way,' which gave her the confidence to write the track."I wanted to thank Whitney because when I wrote 'Born this Way,' I imagined she was singing it -- because I wasn't secure enough in myself to imagine I was a superstar," Gaga told the crowd at the Staples Center. "So, Whitney, I imagined you were singing 'Born This Way' when I wrote it."
On Twitter, users seemed suspicious of Gaga's nod to Houston, with many commenting that she may have been trying to deflect some of the criticism she's received over the song's apparent similarities to Madonna's 1989 smash 'Express Yourself.'

Maybe because she's a parody of an imitation of a cartoon, and she just gets uglier and uglier?
I agree that something is wrong, the woman is a great singer, and very talented. But whats with the demonic crap, did she make a pact with the devil or something and now that she is famous and successful she's letting it be known. I don't get it.

I love her. There will always be similarities to other artists, but I think that she stands on her own merit. She is a major talent.
She's everybodys guilty pleasure.
It's called ART and she is an artist. Remember, art isn't mean to be beuatiful It's meant to challenge you, raise awareness and make you THINK.

All the greatest musical artists are misunderstood by many of the buffoons that make up the ignorant public, Led Zepplin, Elton John, Queen, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan...they were ridiculed and constantly bashed by those who only understood the 'top 40' type music. All of you who don't 'get'her, go back to listening to your Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, all the other crap with no soul and let those of us who enjoy real musicians keep on enjoying her.
So her inspiration is Whitney ? Disco ? Bad make-up ?Makes me think that egg is all cracked up .

I think when she first wrote the song she imagined it as a slower song, so that's why she imagined whitney. I think it's sweet actually. I'm not a huge fan of gaga, but it's nice to see her human. I think Whitney should sing a version at an awards show for her...that would be sweet.

I love Gaga. She is a performance artist, everything she does and wears has intent and a purpose. Furthermore, she has actual musical talent, both vocally and on the piano. She is the real deal. I adore her and am proud to be a little monster.

Not hating on her, but she is riding Madonna's old bike. She has a good voice - she needs to find her own direction and stop trying to shock people into paying attention with her antics. Let your talen speak for you.

She tried that and no one would sign her. Once she started the "antics" she became a hit overnight.
I have a hard time understanding all the negative emotions against Lady Gaga. So she has the guts to stand out in the crowd in her sometimes outlandish costumes but, "SHE" gets noticed. Lady Gaga is one smart cookie. I remember when Madonna came on the scene, she was the outrageous one, and remember her pointed boobs, what was with that? You have got to admit, her music is way better than the bubble gum type that Justin Bieber sings. Didn't she beat him out today?
