Report: Britney Spears Earned $500K For Product Placements in 'Hold it Against Me' Video

While some fans are shaking their heads over the blatant product placements in Britney Spears' video for 'Hold it Against Me,' the singer isn't sweating her critics. In fact, she's laughing all the way to the bank.

TMZ reports that the pop superstar raked in a cool half a million dollars for prominently featuring a number of brands in the video, including Make Up Forever cosmetics, Sony, dating site Plenty of Fish and her own fragrance, Radiance.

Spears has heard from her fair share of detractors in the industry over the video, including Katy Perry, who tweeted about the obvious product placements, "do it w/style & grace...Not so in ur face like some. U hv to get creative w/it. Some artists don't care tho, & u can tell."

Despite the hefty price tag, sponsors whose products were promoted in the video only received a few seconds of air time, with some companies receving only one product shot (in conjunction, of course, with Spears' implied endorsement of the product).

One group that isn't complaining is Spears' advertisers, who are already reaping the benefits of their investment.

Plenty of Fish has already reported a 20 percent increase in traffic to their site since Spears debuted her video last week.

We'll NEVER know whether she can sing or not if she keeps prancing around a stage. A "music video" is childish choreography made for teens, and if making money is all you can do, so be it, but it WOULD be nice to hear you "SING"!

Using product placement as promotion is a cheap and tacky ploy.

But then I guess it makes sense since Britney Spears, herself, is so cheap and tacky ...

Now I understand, when it first came on I thought Oh, this is for product placement. It seems I was right. Does she not think she can get the pay otherwise. The video wasn't good anyway, I don't understand it and it looks like something from the Superbowl.

You hafta be a britney fan to get it, she uses imagery to explain her career high and lows and personal struggles. If you watch her recent videos she almost always has her perfumes featured. The truth is record labels don't back artist the way they use to, and this is the way videos get made in the digital age. She's a big name and therefor gets big bucks. Lady gaga did it, Avril Lavigne, Christina Aguilera, etc. She's just Britney Spears, the woman all americans love to ridicule for self satisfaction....

I dont like the song but with all the hype around the video I was suckered into watching this crap. I dont think she can sing nor dance. I think this was the worst video EVER. Whoever styled her for the video should be fired. The white dress was horrible her boobs looked weird and her shoulders looked extra wide. What the hell was up with that smile 2:45 mins into the video? She looked like one of those cats or dogs on the greeting cards.

extremely untalented individuals will desperately seek attention any way they can - in this case, sadly dressing up and appearing like a cheap prostitute in the hopes of bolstering her image will somehow lend her some kind of credibility - is a cry for help...will somebody PLEASE get a coat or something and send her home...PLEASE...

Other artist can put her down for it, but within a year 25% of the music videos will follow suit. If it was more subtle and a natrual part of the scene it would have been much better.
