David Arquette: I Had My First Beer at Age 4
David Arquette has been sober since Dec. 29, and he's ready to share all the details about his alcohol and drug-filled past since cleaning up. During an appearance on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' airing Thursday, the actor reveals all to the talk show host.
"When I had my first drink of beer, I must have been 4 years old," he told Winfrey [via
UsMagazine.com]. "I was down in the basement with my dad, and beer was there, and I just grabbed it and drank it. And I remember that. It's one of my earliest memories."
"I seriously started drinking probably when I was about 12," the 'Scream 4' actor continued. "I stole pot from my father when I was 8 years old."
The 39-year-old revealed it was his wife,
Courteney Cox, and sister, Patricia Arquette, who got him to check into rehab on Jan. 2.
"I came back from Miami, and I had taken a nap. I woke up, and Patricia and Courteney were at my bed," Arquette remembered. "Courteney had a cup of coffee. I was like, 'What are you two doing here together?' I already knew."
"Courteney's like, 'Do you mind coming out to the living room for a minute?' I said, 'Sure, let me get dressed.' I put on this white outfit and came out. I peeked my head out, and [I saw] my best friend Hartwell and my business partner and some guy I don't know. I go 'What up, Turkeys? I guess this is my intervention!'"

One look says it all, Jack Black's wife does not look too happy at the game, but know how you feel, I'm not too much into basketball either.
Slash.. good for you! I, too, have been there. Although it's a heck of a place to be (at rock bottom) it sure feels good when you get your sh_t together and rise up again. Hope David can do the same.
Mike is a drunkin fool since four? Yeah I'm going to worship this clown..........

...uh..."like"..."I go"...I'm a illiterate teenager. And so much for anonymity at the level of press, radio, and films. Who cares about this guy's drinking? Doesn't Oprah have better subjects for her viewers. This country is obsessed with celebrities and celebrity wannabes in rehab.

We are always hearing about celebs doing stupid stuff. Everyday in fact, but it is nice to hear something like this due to the fact that maybe it might just help someone else. When they read about it..

he is way too new in his sobriety to be "telling all". chances are, he won`t maintain sobriety on his first try. what he is doing now is bragging about his exploits. he sees them as a "badge" and doesn`t see how it has hurt others` lives yet. i wish him luck, but he has a false confidence that will trip him up before he knows it. it is a lifetime, not a race...
19+ years & counting...

I can't speak for his upbringing, but I had my first sip of beer when I was around 2 or 3. Very similar situation, in fact. It was a family picnic, father left his beer on the table while he was helping mom with the grill. I was told to leave it alone but stole a sip anyway and promptly spat it out because I thought it tasted awful. Like Arquette, it's one of my strongest early memories, that and the spanking I recieved afterwards for not listening. :D
Big deal! Charlie Sheen went to rehab at age 2 and he still goes to rehab!

I was given my first drink at 4 by my grandfather. Now 64 years later I am and always was a functioning human being with no drug or alcohol problems. It's so easy to blame someone else.

I knew David's dad, Lewis (we had the same talent agent) It doesn't surprise me that he had his first beer at 4... I bet Cliff Arquette (aka Charlie Weaver) gave Lewis his first taste of the "suds" at an even more tender age. Great family tho'. Extremely talented. Lmc
