David Arquette: I Thought Courteney Was Having an Affair

In a candid interview on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' that aired Thursday, David Arquette opened up about his marriage to Courteney Cox, their separation and whether or not he believes they'll get back together, UsMagazine.com reports.

Although the couple publicly announced their separation in September 2010, Arquette revealed they'd been discussing the possibility of splitting for many months.

The 'Scream 4' actor told Oprah that "[Courteney] came down really depressed one day, and was like 'I'm really just not happy.'" How did he feel about that?

"I felt really sort of abandoned at that point," Arquette admitted. "A deal is a deal." (That phrase is engraved on the couple's wedding bands.) "I was angry with... the dynamic of our relationship," he said. "I was angry with my wife."

The 39-year-old actor said he got even angrier when he started hearing rumors about Cox having a relationship with an actor on her show, 'Cougar Town.' "There were tabloid stories coming out about her and someone on her show having, you know, an affair," he told the talk show host.

And though he now knows the stories weren't true, he believed them at first. "I thought she was having an affair with someone. Nobody would've said something like that if she weren't."

When asked about the chances of a reconciliation, Arquette seemed unsure. "I love Courteney," he said. "I don't know right now. I want us to be the best people we can be, and then if it's together -- I want her to be happy, and if me even being the best person I can be doesn't make her happy in a partner -- like, who she needs, whatever she's looking for -- that's still to be answered."

WATCHED THE SHOW ON OPRAH...I THOUGHT HE JUST HAD A DRINKING PROBLEM...BUT AFTER LISTENING TO HIM...I SEE ITS MUCH DEEPER...THIS GUY IS JUST PLAIN STUPID....THERE IS NO CURE FOR STUPID...NOT AT 39....RUN COURTNEY RUN....DON'T LOOK BACK...BOTH YOU AND JEN GOT TAKEN IN BY A PAIR OF JERKS...

Didn't see the interview, but if the guy is not abusing his kids or his wife, is not on drugs, and is not unfaithful,or gambling, then so what if he's stupid! There are worst things. If he really is stupid the woman knew this when they walked down the isle and she may have even found it amusing at the time.

I'm not married cause those vows are serious business, but If I were to ever marry I would hope to make a well informed decision and know that I can accept someones worst trait qualities for the next 50 years as hopefully they would accept mine. People need to seriously talk before they walk down the isle and lay all the cards out including what to do if one of them ever became serious ill.

You just can't wake up one morning after 5-10-20-30 years and proclaim "I'm not happy I want out". Look where that got Mel Gibson. I bet he wishes he would have treated his 1st wife a lot better. So many families have been destroyed by quick marriages and by divorce.

Marriage is not meant to be a revolving door and I just don't believe that people suddenly drift apart. There are usually signs in the beginning that people choose to ignore.If your not happy then figure out why and start dwelling on the things that made you happy in the first place as a couple.

poor Oprah! that was one of the worst oprahs i have ever seen-babling, studdering guest who cant give a straight answer-did u see her face>she was so confused...her shows have been off the charts this season-that one with david-sucked...sorry *O*, that man is not stable...

yes, it was a little painful to watch...it's called heartbreak! It must be hard to live in Courtney's shadow, to be called Mr. Cox. But let's be human, give him a break. Anybody who has truly lost someone they loved, whether it's a relationship split or death, knows that losing someone you love, can be paralyzing. I, personally, am glad to see that he is getting help and that he is at least trying to make things right. It takes a lot to admit fault, low self esteem, etc. Look around, there are plenty of us walking around this earth unwilling to get help, or admit a need for self growth.

She probably was having an affair...I imagine it started right around the time she realized she was gorgeous and in-demand, and she was married to a goofy looking loser who was leaching off of her celebrity status

He really just needs to stop giving interviews. Every time this guy opens his mouth he digs his hole a little deeper. Another candidate for the ever useless Dr. Drew's "I-was-sort-of-a Celebrity Rehab."

What a piece of work. I'm susprised she stayed with his drunk a@# as long as she did. No wonder it took her so long to get pregnant, look what she had to work with. If he has been drunk for 30 years hes an emotional baby and will always be because the booze blocks the ability to learn those all so important emotional lessions. The youngest in birth order and a drunk for most of his life! It would take a miricle for him to be anything other than what he has always been- a big drunk kid. He can't change it's too late. She should divorce him and find someone who has a normal emotional IQ. She needs it and her child needs it. If he stays sober he is going to be one pisser to live with and she is going to have to deal with a sober man with the coping mechs of a 9 year old child. Run Courtney Run!!
