Melissa Leo certainly had the winning speech of the night, but maybe for the wrong reasons. One moment, the Best Supporting Actress winner was speechless, the next she had censors working overtime when she let an F-bomb fly during her speech."I'm just shaking in my boots here," 'The Fighter' star said. "Yeah, I am kind of speechless. When I watched Kate [Winslet] two years ago it looked so much f**king easier."
Backstage, Leo was quick to apologize for her obscenity. "I had no idea. This word ... I apologize to anyone that they offended. There's a great deal of the English language that is in my vernacular. I really don't mean to offend, and it's probably a very inappropriate place to use that particular word."

Melissa Leo's lack of self control shows a lot about her lack of character, just as Frank's words show about his. Then we have Charlie Sheen. Why is it we think Hollywood is qualified to speak on important matters? Most actors live in a make-believe world and have little true maturity.

At least "I" have character and self control...what do you have?
fece1...speak for yourself
You'd think that someone who makes a living using words, crafting lines and delivering emotions would have a more elegant and intelligent vocabulary.

Seriously? Actors "use" someone else's "crafted" lines and deliver fake emotions.
Give the woman a break. She made a slip in her excitement. Only those who have not let their emotions get the best of them is worthy of casting the first stone.
Any of you out there?
she is dirty & is therefore unable to express herself without resorting to the use of profanity.
only the truly righteous among us can verbalize their emotions in a clean & appropriate manner.
Amen, sister!
Apparently, all of Melissa Leo's taste is in her mouth. She certainly doesn't have any in her character. Yuck!

@ Harbo: Just because the F-word used "everywhere" doesn't make it right. People who are using that word like it was nothing, are pigs.
Plus, it's fine she apologized but she should have been prepared; she'd been courting everyone in Hollywood to get the Oscar vote for weeks & weeks. I think she's just a slob, and it showed.
Cut her some slack, guys. That's a perfectly good word and isn't shockinh anymore. It's everywhere. Get used to it.

Then why was it bleeped? It's not appropriate for the situation.
even you are afraid to use it.
She is a disgrace!!

Hey Hattie....how ya been?
A great opening of the Oscars was ruined by Melisse Leo's foul mouth. Sorry she won. On the whole other than her was pleased with the major winners. The memorium left out lovely Jean Simmons who was a wonderful and beautiful actress. Each year they seem to faux pas with someone.

I don't know why this is such a big deal, our pathetic society has sunk so low it's now the norm to expect foul language, violence and nudity in everything from film, TV amd music.

Melissa Leo's language came straight from the movie The Fighter. Ido believe the Fword was in every sentence. Aside from that it was a great movie, Ithink the best of the year!

What a wench ! That's what's wrong with today's actors. Spoiled with more money than they deserve and have not an ounce of grace and elegance. I'd rather watch old black and white movies than the crap these actors put out today.

Melissa Leo deserved to win for her work in The Fighter. She did a great job (and also deserved to win the year prior). Congrats to her!!!
I don't care if she dropped an f-bomb. Who cares! I'm glad that she is getting more press and hopefully, she will get a few more good movie roles out of this win.

She may have an Oscar, but she's no winner.
