Lady Gaga Debuts 'Born This Way' Video

The video for
Lady Gaga's latest smash, 'Born This Way,' has arrived, and it is every bit as creative and visually arresting as anything Mother Monster has ever unleashed on her adoring fans.
The clip, directed by fashion photographer Nick Knight in collaboration with the Haus of Gaga creative team and choreographer Laurieann Gibson, continues the rebirth theme the enigmatic pop star has been pushing since emerging from an egg-like vessel to perform the track at this year's Grammys.
"This is the manifesto of Mother Monster," Gaga says, setting up the effects-heavy video. "Thus began the beginning of the new race. A race within the race of humanity, a race which bears no prejudice, no judgment, but boundless freedom."

'Born This Way'
debuted on Feb. 11, and after just three days of release the track shattered iTunes sales records and became the 1,000th song to top the Billboard singles chart. At radio, 'Born This Way' was picked up more than any debuting title in the chart's 18-year history, according to Nielsen BDS, and has gone on to sell over a million digital downloads.
Despite its success, the song has not been without controversy. Reviews for the single have been mostly positive, but both critics and fans have noted that 'Born This Way' bears a
strong resemblance to Madonna's 1989 empowerment anthem 'Express Yourself.'
Gaga
appeared on 'The Tonight Show' the day after her high energy performance at the 53rd Grammy Awards, where she won three prizes including Best Pop Vocal Album, and told Jay Leno that Madonna and her team e-mailed her to voice their support for the single; however, Her Madgesty's publicist said she was unaware of any such e-mail. While Madonna herself has not spoken publicly about the controversy, she was reportedly
in the audience at Gaga's sold-out Monster Ball show at New York's Madison Square Garden on Feb. 21.
Gaga recently
announced on 'The Gayle King Show' that she will release a second video to accompany a stripped-down version of 'Born This Way,' with proceeds from the release going to an anti-bullying charity.

Those Strings Sound Awfully Familiar Does the intro to 'Born This Way' sound familar to you film buffs? That's not a surprise. Gaga's new video uses the title theme from Alfred Hitchcock's 1958 classic 'Vertigo,' composed by Hollywood legend Bernard Herrmann. Herrmann was also the man behind the scores for 'Cape Fear,' 'Psycho' and 'Taxi Driver.'

A desperate, attention seeking parasite.
Really?!
I love Lady Gaga - I think she's a great artist and definitely subject to hits & misses, but I hated this video. I definitely felt like there was way too much effort to push the envelope. Sometimes less is more & this was WAY over the top. At times, her character kinda reminded me of Strangé (the character Grace Jones played in that movie Boomerang)...

Lady who ? . lol.. excuse me while I puke.

See, it's not her fault, she was born ugly and stupid. Hopefully it won't reproduce, because that would be one messed up kid.

Pretty pretentious crap. It seems to be an excuse to show off her crotch and how enamoured she is with herself. There's nothing wrong with the song itself, and as to the "art" ~ everybody rips off everybody, so there's no news there. But all the posturing and ridiculous posing is getting old. Maybe in her next video she can just sit around naked with her legs spread and get it over with. Then she can get back to the business of singing. And the same can be said for Britney, Rhianna, Christina and all the rest of them.

I thought I was watching Madonna'a "Express Yourself and Vogue" videos. A very poor imitation with a lack of orignal creativity

I'm not a fan of anyone outside my family and little circle of friends but after watching this video of LG, I'm thinking she's captured her own audience and is sucking in and intriguing outsiders like myself. Fame, like everything else doesn't last forever so I'm wishing her and us all much joy while our journey unfolds

I was a teen from the late 60's into the 70's and thru the 80's rocked in the 90's still going in the 2000's. Watched the Beatles invasion, Janis Joplin, Jimmy Hendrix and Alice Cooper, Iron Butterfly and Ozzy. Remember when Madonna came to be and when MJ was a boy. Cried when Jim Croce sang Time In a Bottle. Loved Cyndi Lauper and like a little country music too. I remember when MTV and VHI and GAC and CMT came to be. Rocked my son to music when he was a baby and gave him the love of music in doing so. I cant pick a time that was my favorite because it paved the way for all who followed and will follow. I like Lady Gaga's music. She does remind me of a more "bold" Madonna. But I can also remember my parents saying that the sounds of the late 60's and the 70's was pure evil. To me music is what makes the soul happy. And be it Lady Gaga or your choice. Go with it.

The video is alright, nothing ground breaking. I kind of expected something great with her. Also didn't realize that she's not that great of a dancer. Still it's watchable. They can cut out the birth scenes, that was for shock value.

Hmmm interesting that Lady Gaga said Madonna's camp emailed Gaga in support of her song, but Madonna's camp has now said they have no recollection of this email.

interesting how madonna showed up to one of lady gaga's concert because there's actually no bad blood between them, even though the media has spun this way outta control. interesting indeed.
now that i think about it, it dose remind me of express yourself. not crazy about this song and the video is weird.
