Tom Cruise has been cast to play a heavy metal rocker in the big screen adaptation of the popular Broadway musical 'Rock of Ages.' The film's director, Adam Shankman, revealed the confirmed casting to Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet at the Oscars, reports UsMagazine.com.
'Rock of Ages' is set in 1987 on the Sunset Strip, where a small town girl meets a big city rocker in LA's most famous rock club, and they fall in love to the greatest songs of the '80s.
Cruise, 48, is set to play fiction metal singer 'Stacee Jaxx' and will be singing the Bon Jovi classic 'Wanted Dead or Alive' in the film. When asked how the 'Mission: Impossible' actor was when it came to singing, Shankman replied, "He can sing! It's a miracle." Watch a performance of the song from the musical after the jump.
And it looks like the actor is working hard to perfect his role. Shankman said that Cruise was studying the required vocals and even checked out a performance of the show last week.
Cruise seems to be sort-of following in the footsteps of his wife Katie Holmes, who in 2008 went to Broadway to act in 'All My Sons.'
Her performance did not win too many rave reviews; let's hope Cruise can do better.
Jon Hamm, star of the hit series "Mad Men", is spotted filming scenes for the upcoming season. Jon was all smiles while filming in a red, vintage Imperial convertible.
Tom Cruise ??? Did anyone see the live performance ?? Tom Cruise is no where near anyone who was in Rock of Ages except maybe the old man trying to close down the club ! Tom Cruise ?? really ??? He will ruin the show ! Go away Tom , like forever
Sooo Soo glad we seen it last year... nothing could make me want to go see it with Tom playing that part NOTHING.. even though the person he is playing is an arrogant self indulged rock star..
There isn't enough money to make me want to see anything Tom Cruise is in. I think he is arrogant, self centered, biggoted(sp), and thinks he is bteer than anyone else in the industry, or world. Get over yourself Tom. You are nothing. Poor Suri
Let's pretend for a minute that Cruise isn't incredibly ODD... He's just too bleeding old to do this show. It's silly. Sean Connery was big box office when "Risky Business" came out... Maybe they should have cast him? This is a young man's role. Rock of Ages will never be an award winner, but it could have been fun. Now it's just going to be stupid.
After I heard that the Cruise's were boycotting the Oscars because of Anne Hathaway's SNL protrayal of Katey Holmes (which I watched and it was no big deal) I couldn't believe the egos of those two. How petty and childish. I see them in an unflattering light and I don't think I will go out of my way to pay to see their movies. I wonder if either one of the Cruise's were on SNL and did the same thing.
Tom Cruise, Charlie Sheen, Lindsey Lohan -- a bunch of psychotic, addicted crazies. They all need to be locked up, either in jail or a psych ward. Tom Cruise may not be in the same category. I don't think he is addicted but his crazy rants about religion put him in the same psychotic category. I feel sorry for his present wife. She is never smiling in her pics lately. Hopefully, she will get smart like Nicole Kidman and get out of that crazy relationship. There is no telling what he puts her through in the name of religion.
You couldn't pay me to see anything this idiot does. When I watched Charlie Sheen this morning, I couldn't help but see how similar and demonic both he and Tom Cruise look...kind of scary.
I wish I had his money and his power. Calling him names won't make him go away, when you're THAT rich, he can do what he wants, when he wants....including making another stinking movie.
gee i thought Tom would be perfect for a remake of the remake,A Star is Born. he would be perfect for Barbara's part. He could even use his own wardrobe from the back of his closet that he's hiding in. Who ever heard of a dwarf action hero anyway
Doesn't anyone think that Cruise is a "little" old to be playing a rock star? It's not like he's Keith Richards or Mick Jagger you know. At least they earned the "look."
Maybe this movie will make it into next year's "In Memorium" segment of the Oscars. Lord knows nobody is going to see it while they're alive
They squander all their money. They have to look "rich" and "happy to their peers. Too bad they aren't grateful for what they have. They are their own "Creators" and what a mess!
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

OMG: Horrible. The old past movies are good enough. Stop while you're ahead. Don't do Broadway - you'll ruin what rep you still have.
