Tom Cruise has been cast to play a heavy metal rocker in the big screen adaptation of the popular Broadway musical 'Rock of Ages.' The film's director, Adam Shankman, revealed the confirmed casting to Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet at the Oscars, reports UsMagazine.com.
'Rock of Ages' is set in 1987 on the Sunset Strip, where a small town girl meets a big city rocker in LA's most famous rock club, and they fall in love to the greatest songs of the '80s.
Cruise, 48, is set to play fiction metal singer 'Stacee Jaxx' and will be singing the Bon Jovi classic 'Wanted Dead or Alive' in the film. When asked how the 'Mission: Impossible' actor was when it came to singing, Shankman replied, "He can sing! It's a miracle." Watch a performance of the song from the musical after the jump.
And it looks like the actor is working hard to perfect his role. Shankman said that Cruise was studying the required vocals and even checked out a performance of the show last week.
Cruise seems to be sort-of following in the footsteps of his wife Katie Holmes, who in 2008 went to Broadway to act in 'All My Sons.'
Her performance did not win too many rave reviews; let's hope Cruise can do better.
Jon Hamm, star of the hit series "Mad Men", is spotted filming scenes for the upcoming season. Jon was all smiles while filming in a red, vintage Imperial convertible.
I for one LOVE, LOVE Bet Midler, the song "Wind beneith my wings" I just LOVED, and her acting is very good also...so please leave Bet alone, she's great. Tom can't even get close to where Bet is adn he never will.
The guy singing in that broadway clip is worse than awful! Listen to his off key voice crack at the end, God that is so bad. Tom Cruise can't be much worse on vocals but it will probably be as big a flop as having Lucille Ball play Mame and sing in her croak voice.
I use to be a Tom Cruise fan... "use to be" omg who cares who plays the role in this pos film. This looks like a film that will rank right up their with "Gay Pride"... I am not a gay basher but this movie so has "Drag Queen" written all over it.
Masterpieces (lol) like this make me ashamed to think I was one time part of this era in time!
Tom Cruise doesn't look too good lately. He looks like he has been ridden hard and put away wet. The only movie I enjoyed with Tom Cruise was Risky business.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

Uh-oh, I think Tom Cruise might have caught "Sheen-itis" from Charlie. It's also called "illusions of grandeur".

Why not Adam Lambert? At least he's a proven singer who can belt out a song and has Broadway experience!

You are right! He would be the best choice. His powerful voice goes perfectly with his stage presence, and he's much better looking.

I have an idea....Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro playing Robert Plant and Jimmy Page...how about Danny DeVito as James Taylor...I would see it!

It got worse?!!? I had to shut it off after 5 seconds. Even Tom can sing better than that...
Where do actors go when the movie role pickings get slim.. Broadway. May he bomb just like Julia Roberts. I can't stand the man.

Hope the producers can find a female lead SHORT enough to play opposite him!
I am so tired of Cruise and his DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR.
Katie Holmes gave up her Catholic Faith for this little creep!
So sad!

Tom Cruise is a nut-job fruitcake. Run for public office, Tom. You will fit right in with Republicans.
