Tom Cruise has been cast to play a heavy metal rocker in the big screen adaptation of the popular Broadway musical 'Rock of Ages.' The film's director, Adam Shankman, revealed the confirmed casting to Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet at the Oscars, reports UsMagazine.com.
'Rock of Ages' is set in 1987 on the Sunset Strip, where a small town girl meets a big city rocker in LA's most famous rock club, and they fall in love to the greatest songs of the '80s.
Cruise, 48, is set to play fiction metal singer 'Stacee Jaxx' and will be singing the Bon Jovi classic 'Wanted Dead or Alive' in the film. When asked how the 'Mission: Impossible' actor was when it came to singing, Shankman replied, "He can sing! It's a miracle." Watch a performance of the song from the musical after the jump.
And it looks like the actor is working hard to perfect his role. Shankman said that Cruise was studying the required vocals and even checked out a performance of the show last week.
Cruise seems to be sort-of following in the footsteps of his wife Katie Holmes, who in 2008 went to Broadway to act in 'All My Sons.'
Her performance did not win too many rave reviews; let's hope Cruise can do better.
Jon Hamm, star of the hit series "Mad Men", is spotted filming scenes for the upcoming season. Jon was all smiles while filming in a red, vintage Imperial convertible.
Never been a fan of Tom Cruise. Before his divorce from Kidman he had a "handler" who effectively kept his real personality in check. After his divorce and prior to his marriage to Holmes, he changed "handlers" and we saw a very disturbing, disturbed egomaniac. Since that time, I have not (and will not) watch ANYTHING that has anything to do with Tom Cruise. If he were doing the Story of MY Life, I wouldn't watch it!
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos
