The Smallest Victims of Charlie Sheen's Meltdown: His Children

Regardless of what is really going on in Charlie Sheen's head, the first priority at this point in time should be to ensure the safety of his young children. They cannot defend themselves or call for help if they are placed in danger.

It has been reported by TMZ that Sheen's estranged wife Brooke Mueller has obtained a temporary restraining order barring Sheen from coming within 100 feet of her or their children until their next court appearance. Mueller has accused Sheen of threatening her and reportedly fears for the safety of their children when in his care. Sheen, on the other hand, is now alleging that Mueller is a drug addict and is vowing to fight for custody of his twin boys.

These dueling allegations will be yet again played out in the media and in a Los Angeles courtroom to determine if the former 'Two and a Half Men' actor is indeed a danger to Mueller and his children. At this point, there are more questions than answers, but one thing is certain -- both Sheen and Mueller need serious help to deal with their substance abuse issues (if they are presently battling addiction) and should seek out a professional to learn how to co-parent properly.

Both will have to prove that they are clean and not on drugs or suffering from alcohol abuse issues. Next, they must show that they can properly care for their children without supervision. They must also learn to communicate with one another about issues regarding the children in a rational and peaceful manner.

The court will always look to the best interest of the children to ensure their safety and well-being. Children must be protected if there is the slightest chance they may be in harm's way. Unfortunately, the people suffering most from this debacle are two impressionable boys. Adults should be just that and act in a stable and healthy fashion in front of their children. Small children must at all times be protected both physically and emotionally.

Clearly, Sheen and Mueller have not demonstrated a peaceful and safe relationship for these children. Expect drug tests to be ordered for both Sheen and Mueller, psychiatric evaluations for both parties and likely home visits by family service professionals in the coming days and weeks.

Sheen and Mueller should really take a step back and think about how their actions are negatively impacting their children -- now and in the future. These twin boys are trapped in a ping-pong match they never signed up for. We will see what unfolds when it falls to a judge to decide who is the better parent in what will surely be a nasty custody battle and whether or not Mueller is in imminent danger and should be protected indefinitely by a permanent restraining order.

At this point, I don't think either parent should have the children. Possibly the grandparents can step in, giving the parent's supervised visits. These babies deserve better than having 2 drug addicts for parents. I am not saying Charlie and Brooke don't love the boys, I am saying they are not safe with them at this time. You can love and still destroy.

Doesn't anyone remember that this is how he went after Denise Richards too. Always threatening her, talking trash about her mother and always threatening to take custody of the girls. This is a control issue with him. He finally had to relent and give her full custody because there is no way in h*ll that a judge in their right mind would let him have custody of his children. He can't even take care of himself! He is pathetic!

Charlie you rock! If the babies weren't safe. Somebody should arrest the nanny. Give Charlie and the Nanny the kids back.

Those poor kids are the ones who are going to suffer in the wrath of their parents. The state should take the boys away from them and try to give them a normal life, if that is possible.

This situation is just sad and i feel for those children. Charlie is a talented actor and he needs to get his act together for the sake of those children if not for anything else. I hope he gets the help he needs. Great article Vikki!

I really wish everyone would stop giving this spoiled rotten boy attention( as no real man would act like this ) stop the hipe and maybe he will figure it out he is living on the hipe just like the rest of the spoiled rotten stars that end up either dead or broke either way....enough is enough

It's a shame that his children are going to feel that Charlie cares more about snorting coke or whatever drug, than them.

He was talented, but now he just sounds like he has gone off the deep end.

I hope until he gets cleaned up that he doesn't get visitation to see them. They don't need to see their dad on drugs or take a chance that he had an over dose. It wouldn't be his first, but it could be his last.

Great article. These chiildren should be the first priority to all but with such arrogant, egotistical and selfish parents it seems that the courts will have to step in. Oh and weren't these two (Charlie and Brooke) just partying together last week??? Brooke your actions seem a bit contrived....but I guess something had to be done with Charlie running his mouth to every media outlet that would listen...Well hopefully the children in the end will be protected.

A cruel and calculated move on Brookes part to take the kids hoping to put Charlie over the edge. She was jealous of the 2 women in the house when she saw the interview the day before it aired. Those kids were surrounded by love and had a professional nanny as well supervising their routine.

If Charlie is so insane why did he remain calm when they took his kids away without notice? He did it because he loves his children and didn't want them to be upset. The hardest acting job of his life. He tested negative for drugs on both ...tests: blood and urine- on camera. Before everyone starts believing all of the angry women in his life, think about how angry you were when you got divorced. People say all kinds of things to win in a divorce or custody battle. Brooke is a drug addict. I doubt she even has correct recollection of the events. Charlie is justifiably angry since he had his kids stolen from him and now people are going to say that he is crazy and dangerous if he expresses his anger. If he doesnt express anger then people will call him abnormal. Clever move Brooke!

Yes Charlie is crazy, but the real tragedy is what this is doing to the children. Kids are only kids for so long. Then they grow up and are able to reflect on their childhood from an adult point of view. What will they think when they view their father through their adult eyes? Terrible.

If somebody came and took your sleeping babies out of their beds in the dark of night, how would you react?
I would go ballistic!
How dare the LAPD - acting on the word of a known druggie, Brooke Mueller, break into the peace and serenity of Charlie Sheen's Bev Hills home,rip those precious babies out of thier own cribs and take them WITHOUT CAR SEATS to some unknown location? How in hell is this even LEGAL?
I hope Charlie sues the hell outta the LAPD, Brooke Muellers stupid lawyers and the courts.

While we all dwell on the twins how about the girls he has from his former women. They are old enough to see the media condem him & see his stupid reactions. What do people think this does to them. One thing is certain, if this man doesn't get some help & realize these children may follow in his foot steps if he doesn't then he proves to the world he really only cares about 1 person & that is Charlie. Really he doesn't care much about him.
