Source: Jessica Simpson 'Front-runner' to Join Simon Cowell on 'The X Factor'

There's been a lot of rumors flying around about who will join the great Simon Cowell on his new competition show, 'The X Factor.' Sources tell PEOPLE that Jessica Simpson is a front-runner.

"There [are] loads of conversations happening at the moment," the source tells the magazine. "No one has been offered a judging role yet as new names keep coming forward who want the role, but there are some front-runners, and it's fair to say Jessica is one of them. She's very keen."

The source continued: "She knows what she is talking about [and] is talented and likable. But Simon's not in a rush to decide. The judges have to mentor on 'The X Factor' -- it's more than just turning up for a few hours a week to appear on TV."

After witnessing the success of hiring pop star Jennifer Lopez to judge 'American Idol,' it's no surprise Cowell is looking around at other pop stars. "They have to get the decision right, which takes time," the source said of the selection process. "Those final decisions may not happen for a few weeks."

'The X Factor' will debut this fall on FOX.

Well under the XFactor she will be judging the contestants (the do) and mentoring the finalists (the teaching). So she doesn't fit into your "another example". She can do and will teach.

I think they're going for a Paula Abdul vibe but this whole show seems so bleeh to me. It's just American Idol 2.0 and the original itself is losing it's luster.

She's literally most famous for being stupid. Yes, I like that big rack of hers, but for a show where she's supposed to evaluate talent and speak intelligently and concisely, she's all wrong. I feel confident Simon Cowell would know that, so if he has her on the show, it's because he wants to bang her. And when she leaves, you'll know he got the job done.
