James Franco Goes After Critical Fellow Yale Student
James Franco, who joined
Twitter just two weeks ago to help promote the Oscars, is now using the site to defend himself against haters -- namely a fellow student at Yale -- who skewered him not for his
maligned performance on Sunday, but for his style of tweeting.
"James Franco, your Twitter sort of sucks," Yale Daily News writer Cokey Cohen
posted Saturday. In her article, Cohen argued that the actor should do more than post "random links to pictures and replies to celebrities." The writer suggested James be more "pithy" like Kanye West.
The critically acclaimed star of '127 Hours' has so far been silent on criticism he was sluggish or perhaps even stoned during the Oscars on Sunday. He also hasn't commented on reports that he and co-host Anne Hathaway grew to hate each other. (
They looked chummy backstage!) But on Tuesday, James
posted an image of himself overlaid with the words "F**K THE YALE DAILY NEWS" in red capital letters.
Cohen told The New Haven Register that her critical blogs of the star's posts were "tongue-in-cheek" and that they were supposed to be all in good fun. She says she's actually a big fan of the actor.
"It's funny how James couldn't really care less about what anyone had to say about his performance, but went crazy after a writer at his campus newspaper criticized his Twitter page," a friend of the star tells me.
I'm told that James had simply "had enough," that it's one thing to be called one of the worst Oscar hosts in history but another to get a lesson from a fellow student on how to conduct himself online.
In case you were wondering, James is pursuing a doctorate in English at the Ivy League school.

The writer is an idiot.
Not qualified for that glorified dog and pony show? Please.....
Franco should continue his education........he stinks as an actor and particularly as an Oscar host!! In my 60 years watching, that was for sure the worst hosting performance/job ever!! Without exception.

This was one of the best oscars I've seen in recent years. James and Anne were refreshing and fun. It's too bad someone decided to rip on Franco. He's a brilliant young actor and yes it sounds like he's carrying too much of load work wise...but he's young and I'll give him a A for effort. Stop ragging on him. If you don't like him ....fine...don't watch him otherwise please zip your lip. You're trying to kill one of the very few great actors we have of his generation....so Franco...keep up the good work!!!! We love you!!!!thought you did a great job at the oscars.
He's such a nothing, full of pretension and high airs. He likes to think he's a renaissance man, but recess man is more like it, with the way he's out to lunch. Trying to do it all -- reading, writing, acting ad nauseum -- better do the arithmetic, boy -- it all adds up to zero.

Mr. Franco seems intent, foolishly, on portraying himself as a spoiled brat.

Yes, he sucked as a host, be she's a conceited Yale student. Who cares.

Poor beautiful, talented Ann Hathaway. To be chained to a dull slug like Franco for hours must have been excruciatingly unbearable. I'm sure she will go on to bigger and better things, just don't ever let your path cross with that clueless jerk .

The headline alone told me that Cokey Cohen was a girl with a Franco crush who was hoping to "poke" him in the paper to get a reaction. Not only does she get the cred of dissing him before and after his reply, but she gets to milk it for a great job after graduation. She'll lead every job interview with "yeah, I'm the girl who got James Franco steamed about a tweet." Eventually she will have to prove that she can actual write and that she's more than a fame lemming, drafting in the wake of the more famous. I hope for her sake that she's actually talented and not another future dentist.

I hate this arrogant douche.

I'm pretty sure James Franco was just doing exactly what the author asked - acting like Kanye. The author's follow-up even recognized that. Just some good (not so clean) fun here at Yale.

I thought that Ann Hathaway was outstanding and is truly gifted. But Franco was a bore and appeared totally consumed with himself. He didn't relate to Ann nor the audience. He was posing with his usual grin craving adulation from the audience.
Franco, get over yourself! ~~

Yeah, the Yale student kind of sounds like someone who's run their mouth off, and is now backpedaling. If she was really a "huge fan," she wouldn't have written those articles in the first place.

I think his feelings were hurt that people at Yale aren't drooling over him.
