Mike Huckabee criticized actress Natalie Portman on a radio show for glorifying and glamorizing out-of-wedlock pregnancy
UsMagazine.com is reporting that potential presidential candidate Huckabee went on 'The Michael Medved Show' on Monday, a day after Portman won the Oscar for Best Actress, and criticized the 'Black Swan' actress, who's currently expecting her first child with fiance Benjamin Millepied.
Huckabee said on the radio show, "People see a Natalie Portman who boasts, 'We're not married, but we're having these children, and they're doing just fine.' I think it gives a distorted image. It's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-wedlock children."
The former governor of Arkansas and Fox News Channel host called Portman's pregnancy "troubling" and went on to say that many single parents did not have the resources that the 29-year-old actress possessed and would not be able to afford help to look after the baby.
He said, "Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that's the story that we're not seeing."
Even the host of the radio show, Michael Medved, got in on the act of slamming the actress. Medved referenced Portman's Oscar acceptance speech, where she thanked Millepied and said he gave her "my most important role of my life."
Medved said that Millepied "didn't give her the most wonderful gift, which would be a wedding ring!"
Of course, neither Huckabee nor Medved felt the need to criticize Bristol Palin in their discussion of "glorifying" out-of-wedlock motherhood.

@Lori.....I could not have said that any better myself! Thank you! This article was really frustrating for me to read. Gees, where do these politions get off?
Here's Huckabee one of those so called right to lifer's who cheer as bombs fall on Midddle Easter womenn and children; who I guess would rather women have an abortion than an out of wedlock child; and has no problems realeasing convicted murderers to kill again, pontificating on a women who can well afford any lifestyule she chooses.
"People see a Natalie Portman who boasts, 'We're not married but we're having these children and they're doing just fine.' I think it gives a distorted image".
Shut up Huckabee, you're never going to be president. Go away. She's a 29 year old college grad who just now having her first kid. Quite frankly, I'd rather have her having kids than half the uneducated, poor stay at home moms I know. And how is she glorifying it?
100% correct. I really like the professional style shown here by those who don't like Huckabee or disqagree with what he said, words like shut up, old fat white guy, real style people!
At least she can afford her kids and wouldn't to on WIC, food stamps, Medicaid,etc... She is a 29 year old woman not a 16 year told Mom..Huckabee where were you when Miss Palin was pregnant..Shaking hands with her Mom?
And Bristol didn't get married because then she couldn't be on her mother's government paid health insurance. She could have gotten married since her and her boyfriend were still together when she told the world she was pregnant...but she didn't. I wonder whose idea that was? Sarah's probably. Then she goes on Dancing with the Stars and is labeled an activist against teen pregnancy. A little late. Obviously she didn't listen to mommy's speeches, so why should we.
"It's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-wedlock children."
It's unfortunate that you think someone else doing something has to be evangelical in nature. Maybe she is just doing that, not glorifying or glamorizing it. See, you think this because instead of making your own decisions, you read a book and then try to do everything it says. So you think everyone else in the world is looking for something to imitate 100% of the time. But what you don't realize is this: some people are able to think for themselves.
Mike Huckabee is absolutely right for defending having children within marriage as opposed to outside of marriage. Our morals as a nation are down in the basement, and we are much the worse because of it. We need to turn back to God.
I must be getting old..This has a very familiar ring to it..Dan Quayle attacking the TV character Murphy Brown..If I remember correctly that didn't work out to well for him either..
The good news is that old people like Mike are a dying breed - the bad news is, he has a voice. This story is re-hashed by old men periodically (think Dan Quail's attack of Candace Bergen's character a few years back). While I agree with the undeniable statement that many single mothers are unable to support themselves let alone kids, that's a separate issue all together. Move on, dude.
Huckabee is like an old lady who thinks a ring on her finger is a token of love. Well, Natalie Portman may not promote marriage but she promotes happiness, love, talent and achievement.
It's really sweet of Huckabee to worry about Natalie's love life and procreation but I think she'll manage. She's already a better person than he is.
Mike was the only out and out kook that I was afraid might actually be able to win the Presidency in 2012. The kookier Mike gets, the less worried I am about him winning a general election. He's obviously given up on even attempting to portray himself as a moderate.

Huckabee and Medved are right, of course. and coruagesous unlike many others who agree but are silent. "All it takes for evil to triumph..."

So why didn't he say something when Bristol Palin was pregnant??? Typical GOP double-standard.
Because he would suffer the rath of Sarah, thats why.

Get over it.... Marriage is on its way out. For the first time in history, there are more singles in this country than marrieds.
