Mike Huckabee criticized actress Natalie Portman on a radio show for glorifying and glamorizing out-of-wedlock pregnancy
UsMagazine.com is reporting that potential presidential candidate Huckabee went on 'The Michael Medved Show' on Monday, a day after Portman won the Oscar for Best Actress, and criticized the 'Black Swan' actress, who's currently expecting her first child with fiance Benjamin Millepied.
Huckabee said on the radio show, "People see a Natalie Portman who boasts, 'We're not married, but we're having these children, and they're doing just fine.' I think it gives a distorted image. It's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-wedlock children."
The former governor of Arkansas and Fox News Channel host called Portman's pregnancy "troubling" and went on to say that many single parents did not have the resources that the 29-year-old actress possessed and would not be able to afford help to look after the baby.
He said, "Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that's the story that we're not seeing."
Even the host of the radio show, Michael Medved, got in on the act of slamming the actress. Medved referenced Portman's Oscar acceptance speech, where she thanked Millepied and said he gave her "my most important role of my life."
Medved said that Millepied "didn't give her the most wonderful gift, which would be a wedding ring!"
Of course, neither Huckabee nor Medved felt the need to criticize Bristol Palin in their discussion of "glorifying" out-of-wedlock motherhood.

people who spend more time criticizing other people's business, should spend more time concentrating on their own lives. This is none of Huckabee's or any other naysayers business...just another republican attempt to spread hate and hypocricy across the country.
As I was reading this I wondering where he gets the right to say that about single mothers?? I happen to be a single mother and I work very hard. I happen to pay for my own health insurance and food for my son and myself as well at a roof over our heads. I am doing pretty good (well I think I am). Before you go off and start bad mouthing single parents maybe you should get your facts straight. Not all single parents are bad and most raise their children just fine without help.
But the kids are not raised with a father. That's the issue. It's not how much money you make or how well the kids are "provided for". Children need to see that their parents are married. Get off your high horse.
You know what my son's father is in his life and we were married it just didn't work out. Sometimes it's better for the kid. Just because the parents aren't married doesn't mean anything. Their are a lot more pressing issues in this world. No body has the right to dictate what is wrong or right. Now why don't you get off your high horse!
Huh... I'm a single mom with a college education, a great job where I'm salary paid, and I own my own home that I bought myself. I don't think being out-of-wedlock is anything bad, as long as the child is well-cared for and loved by both parents.
Thank you, Huckabee for speaking out against this country's lax morals. It is such a shame that certain "celebrities" set a terrible example for the teens and children avidly watching their every move. For the people that are bashing Huckabee, let me ask you this: Where do you draw a line? Are you going to start believing that Linsey Lohan is amazing and Charlie Sheen is just misunderstood. Bottom line is, America needs to start instituting a new system of morality.
And perhaps you should start instiling these values and morals in your children and not allow them to gain these attributes from a television set or by idolizing other people. Stop looking for a scapegoat step up and take control. I learned my morals and values from my parents because of their strong characters and conviction in how I was raised. If you feel the youth is being mislead perhaps you need to start looking in the mirror as well instead of looking for the first place to point a finger. Morals and values start at home perhaps you should look there first!
Mike Huckabee has spent the last four days on conservative talk radio spouting a string of lies about Pres. Obama. In my judgment that relieves him of any standing he might have had to serve as an arbiter of Portman's behavior. All that faux Christian is doing is making yet another attempt to suck up to his right-wing base. Dan Quayle did the same thing as a VP candidate when he criticized the "Murphy Brown" character on TV.
I wouldn't vote for Mike Huck-a-bee (many good rhymes with THAT name), if he were the last human on earth! He's sounding more and more like a racist, a chauvanist and everything ELSE that ends with an 'ist'.
Did I miss something here???? Didn't Bristol have a baby out of wedlock? It seems Natalie is engaged, but Bristol was not. Poor huck...he is troubled by so much...he must have a terrible headache. He's troubled by someone that has funds to care for her child, he's troubled by our leader living in kenya(which is a total lie). What will the next troubling thing be? I'm waiting with bated breath.
Having a baby when married can be difficult. Being a single mother without resources is very hard. I really don't like the new hollywood that says it is alright to be single and not married to have a baby. Our kids look up to them. People don't take responsibility today. Not being married means you can just leave without any repercussions.

He look...Dan Quayle all over again. Why consistently condemn the pregnant woman...what about the MAN/BOY who helped in this process and why they always escape any consequences???? Huckeabee is probably against abortion which involves only the woman and an embryo which has no brain or heart until 3 months...but men always know how to tell women how to run (ruin) their lives but fail to provide acceptable conduct to prevent pregnancies.
Thank you Mr. Huckabee for standing up for BIBLICAL TRUTH! Our nation needs to return back to God! This isn't Mike Huckabee's doctrine he is preaching, it's straight from the Bible people. It's time to take a good hard look at our nation and realize that we are going downhill because we have turned our backs on God. None of us are perfect, but we all need to change and go back to our nation's roots. Unfortunately, many don't believe that our nation was founded on Christianity, but it certainly was. Our founding fathers had prayer meetings for weeks to decide what was to be in the constitution! George Washington certainly was a strong Christian.

There's nothing wrong with that either. When Huckabee is living a perfect life, then maybe he can start an advice column for women. ha!

your wrong about the heart by the way. embryo's get a heartbeat at 5-6 weeks which is only a month and a half.
Cher, you and your husband should be the best parents you can be. That's who children learn their morals from....... not Hollywood.
