While some are aghast that Suri Cruise is allowed to have her pacifier at age 5, we asked our Facebook fans and found out it wasn't as uncommon as you might think. Read on to see stories from parents about their kids' pacifier habits.Lisa Matican Rosengarten: My son had it until 5. I told him that children less fortunate need his pacifier and can't afford their own. He gladly gave it up but at bedtime he would seem to go through "withdrawals". It didn't last long :)
Megan Aubin: Oh yes, both of my girls did. One, it took a fancy Barbie to get her to give it up. The other daughter we basically had to throw them all out. We tried the garbage but she just took them out again!!!

I don't believe in pacifiers, if a chile isn't wet or hungery and isn't sick then I think it is ok to let them fuss or cry.

Pacifiers shold be gone by age two It is aproven fact that suckingof thimbs and pacifiers can give a child what we know as BUCK TEEF! Some women let their kids suck on their tit till they're 5 That's a sick mom with mental problems. While babies receive huge amounts of fats and vitamins andminerals through mom the kids should be wiened by six months to a year

I agree. I didn't allow pacifiers past age 2. They need to learn how to use up that pent up energy or frustration in different or more productive ways.
Pathetic

sucking in a baby is necessary for gratification. Sucking when a child is 5 indicates insecurity. Additionally, she was probably rushed through her feeding sessions which made Suri feel that she continues to need more. Not Healthy
Suri is the boss. She does what she wants and her parents let her! Too bad at 5 yrs old she is encouraged to make all of her own decisions. Why don't they just let her be a kid and stop dressing her so ridiculously for her age. There is nothing normal about her childhood.

Do we really care?

disgraceful. At least they can afford the braces she'll need for the bucked teeth.

I think it is ridiculus for any child to have the pacifier longer than 2 years! Do people realize how bad it is on thier childrens teeth? Plus it makes them not want to talk as fast. It is something that needs to be out of the house before they are a year old in my personal opionion, I have 5 children and they all stopped using a pacifier at 6 months.

suckies still in a 2 year olds mouth is ridiculous as well! and i think 1 is also too long, i'm with you. 6months is my cut off for my kids! this is just 100% lazy parenting! and the same applies to every mother on here who says they are still allowing their 5 year old to have a suckie, all that shows everyone is that you would rather plug your childs mouth to shut them up rather than actual see what your baby, toddler, or child needs.
Nora...
If we let kids do what is relaxing all their lives we wouldn't be very good parents, would we? This is a perfect example of why the country is in the shape it's in. Parents don't parent anymore. They just let kids do what they want to do so they don't have to deal with the fallout. Then, when they grow up to be irresponsible adults who don't know how to stand on their own two feet, they wonder why.

I see nothing wrong with it. My daughter too had a pacifier until she was five. She is a very succsessful business women today

That says more about you than your daughter...
Five is way too old for a pacifier. Furthermore if they speak to any dentist they will be told that her mouth is being malformed by using this, and she will end up needing braces because of it. They don;t want to hear the crying and screaming, but they need to pull the plug.

Oh Please...get the pacifier out of the kids mouth. No need for excuses to the child except "You are too old for that thing, and I'm sorry for being such an inadequate parent to allow this for continuing for so long."

Are you kidding me! Dress her in grown up clothes, let her wear high heeled shoes then stick a pacifier in her mouth. Shame on Katie and Tom.

Actually, I'm beginning to see a pattern here. I think this little girl is already telling her parents what to do, and because they obviously adore her, they go along with it. Suri may end up just fine but not saying no more often now, may be a problem someday.
Some kids do things at different ages for different reasons. A chid in my family didn't potty train until 4-1/2 because she pinched the sensitive skin near her privates on the hinges of the potty chair and was afraid to sit on it after that. When she was 4-1/2 she was big enough to hold on to the sides of the big toilet with help and that's where she learned to go to the bathroom. So I could see if Suri was just different than other kids. But, for crying out loud, to still be on a pacifier when she's 5. Even though Tom and Katie can school her any way they want, this is still the age when she should be preparing for preschool and/or kindergarten activities. Then again, this is a child who wears high heels because she wants to. At 5 I wanted to eat candy all the time but my parents were parents and realized that what my 5-year-old mind wanted, no matter how smart I was for my age, wasn't always what was best for me. Then again, Suri tells Katie how she should dress - and Katie listens.
